"I am the Pretty Guardian from the future who fights for Love and for Justice! I am Neo Sailor Moon! And now in the Name of the Future Moon, I'll punish you!" — Neo Sailor Moon's battlecry

Princess Usagi "Small Lady" Tsukino/Serenity is a character from Pretty Guardian Sailor Moon and the central primary protagonist of The Knights of the Multiverse. The daughter of Neo Queen Serenity & King Endymion, the future queen of Crystal Tokyo and a founding member of the Crystal Knights, she uses the power of the legendary Silver Crystal to become Neo Sailor Moon and aid her new friends in the ever ongoing battle against the forces of evil. However, Usagi's main purpose on the team slowly but surely evolved into finding other misfits and "failures" like she once was, give them a home among the team and help them find a new purpose in life. It just so happened that the best way for them to do that was to duke it out against the forces of evil (who'd have thought?).

Personality[]

Originally, Usagi was a very quiet girl that acted very distant towards others due in part to all the bullying in her past and a rather strong inferiority complex of how she'd never be as great a ruler as her mother is. She would also get scared very easily. Thanks to her estranged meeting with the others though, she grew out of her shell and started to become a lot more outgoing. Although even back then, she had a strong sense on right-and-wrong thanks to her mother and father's stories of their youth, which sometimes led to brief moments of courage with her lending a bit of aid to the others during their fight with the Heralds.

Now, Usagi is a compassionate, outspoken and righteous young woman with a tender heart that desires to fight for the good of all. Like any girl her age (well, physical age, at least), she usually acts very cheery and outgoing, though she can sometimes be loud, snarky, and can be a little bratty sometimes (but what young, spoiled princess isn't at some point?); and that's not to mention her large appetite as she'll eat just about anything, sweets especially. But, she always shows her gratitude towards the rest of her newfound family when they come through her. She's incredibly brave and won't hesitate to face any threat to the lives of his friends, be it facing an entire army of robot drones with only one or two friends by her side or taking a shot or blade for them, all in the hopes to someday becoming a great hero as the rest of them and her mother in her youth. A good example of her kindness and how open her heart is is her personal "squad" on the team; obviously, Usagi accepts the reality that her closest friends are all wires and computers underneath their skin. But what she does see is the people that they present themselves as rather than whatever makes up their insides, and thinks them all to be as human or organic as she is.

Thanks in huge part to how much pain she had to endure through self-pity and bullying for so long and the second chance the others gave her after her "dark spell" during the Unicron battles, she's become a person that can deeply emphasize and sympathize with others whenever they feel alone and often tries to invoke their sense of morality or just to let them know they're not alone. This has actually helped to make her a good leader in training, as while still young and brash at times, her empathy for those around her and her unwavering optimism & resilience in the face of evil served as an inspiration to those that chose to follow her lead. In addition to that, she often takes on an older sister-like role towards them - a certain little "rose" especially - even the ones physically more mature than her, as she's often the one that has to keep the posititivity up to make sure the others don't wane in their motivations & drive to do what's right. She always tries to encourage her teammates to be the very best they can be, both in the use of their powers or just themselves as people. She's also very responsible, as she will make a pour decision every now and again, but is always willing to own up to her mistake & try her hardest to make it right. However, she always makes sure to assert that she doesn't want her friends to follow her lead or even be friends with her just because of her royal title; she just wants their genuine companionship and wants them to trust her for who she is as she trusts them for who they are. Also, thanks to her bonds she made with the other Knights' founding members and all of their different backgrounds, she's very friendly towards all the sorts of living creatures the team comes across in their escapades. Whether they be human, organic, machine or something else entirely, she welcomes them all with open arms.

Well... to an extent. As friendly and openly-caring as she is, she's not afraid to cut loose on the villains she and the others have faced. Having had her first taste of evil be a force of darkness that sought to eradicate all of existence, she understands very well that there are plenty of villains that can't be reasoned with and simply enjoy causing others misery or destroy for destruction's sake. As such, she won't hesitate to attack when necessary and will show absoletly no mercy to the heartless villains she fights; this is shown by how she shows no hesitancy in destroying drone-type enemies like the Shadow Bots and Mobile Doll-controlled Mobile Suits. Moreover, while she's certainly willing to give others second chances, if they repeatedly choose to throw them back in her face and continues to do harm, she knows she has no choice but take them down. Heaven help those that come directly for her friends' throats, as then she'll respond by going for their's in kind.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

Usagi was born as "Usagi Small Lady Serenity", the only child of King Endymion & Neo-Queen Serenity, and the Princess of the Silver Millennium. However, she had stagnated in growth, being physically and mentally a child for over 900 years, something that is unusual for even the long-lived people of the Moon Kingdom. She also never showed any sign of developing powers, which worried her parents greatly, fearing that she might not be able to carry the mantle of Sailor Moon.

Her lack of growth and magical abilities had led the people to believe that she was a fake princess who wasn't the king and queen's true daughter. Her father tried to make her feel better by telling her how much in common she has with her mother and by telling her how invincible Sailor Moon was. Unfortunately, this only made her feel as though she didn't matter to her mother and would never be able to compare it to her.

One day, Usagi wandered down a forbidden corridor and came across a strange door. After going through it, she met the Guardian of Time, Sailor Pluto. Although Neo-Queen Serenity would chide Usagi for visiting her, she would continue to visit the lonely Guardian, and the two quickly became good friends.

Not able to take anymore, she tried to break into her mother's chambers and steal her Legendary Silver Crystal. Unfortunately, just before she could enact this plan, the Black Moon Clan attacked.

Mini-Series[]

As she ran from the destruction, she fell through a red portal and found herself lost in a forest. With only Luna P to accompany her, she ran off aimlessly until she came across a group of Black Moon Clan Droids. Terrified once she saw their Black Moon symbols on their heads, she tried to flee, only to have cornered her against a cliffside, until she was saved by a teenage girl, who introduced herself as Starlight. While she was intimidated by 's brutal fighting skills, she also realized that there most likely wasn't anyone else around to protect her in case of any more drones, she decided to tag along with her to explore their surroundings. The two soon ran into a small group of Dark Army Drones, which were about to squash the two of them.

Big Sister?[]

Several months later, Usagi and the others stopped at a junkyard to scrounge around for spare parts to use for their machines and their "mobile home", the Glomar. While searching, the Pretty Guardian trainee found what she thought was simply a Droid arm that quickly revealed itself to be attached to a perfectly intact Droid that looked around the size of a 7 year old girl with metal limbs and a big red rose on the middle of her yellow dress. Revealing that she was simply out of energy, Usagi took her back to their ship and reactivated her; but the little Droid revealed she had no memories of her past life or her previous owner/creator. So, sensing a bit of a connection to how she was lost when she first met the team, the young Princess decided to take her in and gave her the name "Roscarl", the "rose" part coming from the large rose she wore on the front of her chest and the "carl"... well, just to make it a little more unique: something of her own. So, Roscarl as she came to be known started to try and make herself useful by helping to cook, clean and repair things. And all throughout, she became very attached to Usagi, growing very comfortable and at peace whenever the two were together, almost like a big sister. Usagi wasn't sure what to make this at first, but she did always have this desire to have a younger sibling, so she quickly accepted the "title". So in the middle of everything else, Usagi would make it her responsibility to take care of her "adoptive" little sister, making sure she's properly cleaned & charged and the like.

Season 1[]

While she was really happy with her new friends, she would sometimes have nightmares of turning into Black Lady again and destroying her new family. Not wanting to worry them, she would keep this to herself.

Season 2[]

Season 3[]

Powers & Equipment[]

  • Radio Ear Piece

Usagi has a special radio earpiece that connects to all of her robot friends' electronic brains to allow her to easily communicate with them at great distances.

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat Skills

Usagi has recieved training in hand-to-hand combat from Kamille, Catra and Emily to better defend herself even when not transformed.

Sailor Guardian Form Powers[]

  • Enhanced Strength

Though this doesn't make her as strong as other members like most of her android companions, Usagi gains a lot of strength. Two great examples of this are how she was able to catch & toss aside a large mech's foot when he tries to step on her and even being able to do a good amount of damage from her kicks and punches to both mechs and androids.

  • Flight/Enhanced Jumping

Usagi is either fly or able to jump great heights, able to leap & fly up to about 12 meters into the air.

  • Enhanced Durability

For whatever reason, Usagi is able to take a considerable amount of damage when she transforms, such as being impervious to bullets and lasers (well, from handgun-sized firearms, at least) and being able to tank a large number of physical blows from both humans and Droids.

  • Moon Saber

Usagi's main close-quarters combat weapon. She summons a disk of energy that slowly grows out into a sword with a flash of light.

Red Hair Pieces[]

Usagi has a pair of red hair pieces that appear on the front her hair buns whenever she transforms. They allow her to hear things from a great distance and its own unique attack:

  • Moon Wail

In addition to amplified hearing, the pieces are able to unleash an attack referred to as "the Moon Wail", where Usagi's screams are amplified & turned into supersonic waves that can shatter glass, stun enemies (both human and robot by destabilizing their systems) and render weaker foes totally unconscious.

Moon Tiara[]

  • Moon Tiara Boomerang

Usagi is able to remove her tiara from her forehead and launch it at an opponent like a boomerang, which can slice through most materials very effectively.

  • Moon Tiara Blade
Usagi can expand her tiara into a large, razor-sharp blade and wield it in her hand like a second sword. She can also use it to deflect enemy beam attacks and (naturally) throw it like a regular boomerang.
  • Cross Cutter

In her Super Form, Usagi is able to combine both of her Tiara Blades into a single four-bladed spinning blad

e.

  • Mirage Tiara
Another new power given to her from her "Super Sailor" transformation, Usagi is able to create several energy-based copies of her tiara and throw them at her target for even more damage. In most cases, she presses the gem on her tiara and releases dozens of these "energy tiaras" at her enemy in a scattershot-like manner, mainly as a distraction-type attack.

Silver Crystal[]

After reassembling the seven Rainbow Crystals, Usagi was given the power of the Legendary Silver Crystal, which gives her access to many mystical abilities:

  • Fend off any dark energy
  • Healing
  • Insanely powerful energy beams and blasts
  • Protective Shields & Barriers (this one is especially helpful against really powerful attacks)

Moon Rod[]

Given to her by her mother to aid in her efforts of fighting the forces of evil, the Moon Rod is Usagi's main weapon, with her being able to channel her energy into various types of magical attacks. It can also be used to block bladed weapons. This gives her access to several final attacks:

  • Moon Princess Halation
One of her mother's signature moves during her Guardian days, the Rod generates several powerful moonlight-based blasts which are projected to different directions.
  • Pink Sugar Heart Attack
Usagi's first original spell for the wand, it is an unusually strong heart-based attack. While it only caused slight damage to a single wall, after lots of practice, it fires a surprisingly strong heart-shaped beam attack, with it firing hundreds of energy pellets shaped like hearts.

Special Moves[]

  • Sailor Kick

A diving kick. It's actually surprisingly strong, as it leaves a pretty decently-sized crater whenever it misses its target, and most of the time whenever she makes contact with a robotic enemy, the kick will cause them to explode or at least leave a sizable dent in them.

  • Moon Tiara Bow & Moon Arrow

A super move gained when she gains her Super Sailor form, Usagi's tiara expands outwards, revealing a handle, as the tiara shapeshifts and enlarges into a gigantic bow. She then generates a long strip of magical energy and "stretches out"/draws it back like an arrow to charge its energy before unleashing a shining energy arrow at her target. She can also fire multiple scattershot blasts to take down - or at least severly damage - numerous enemies at once. Aside from the Arrow finishing move, the bow itself can also be used as a makeshift melee weapon.

Combo Attacks[]

  • Hyper Blade Cross

Combo attack w Roscarl: Usagi energizes her Tiara Boomerang (in its "Blade" form) - indicated by the gem in the center glowing red - while Roscarl charges her dagger's Photon Battery. Usagi will then throw her boomerang, followed closely by Roscarl releasing a Photon Beam wave. The wave combines with the Tiara blade into a powerful dual cross slash that spins several times before blasting through their destined target in a horizontal X-like pattern.

There was also a one-time triple combo performed with Emily, where she sped behind the combined blades and performed a downward-vertical slash, thereby cutting their enemy down three-ways.

  • Moon Tiara Sword

Combo attack w/ Emily: Two of Usagi's Mirage Tiaras combine with the blade on Emily's sword, forming a large golden blade with a red gemstone in the center that completely cover the blade underneath, extending it a good bit and making it both impervious to laser fire and allowing it to deal an even more serious amount of damage.

  • Combination Crash1

Combo attack w/ Ayako: Usagi and Ayako hit their enemy with a double-tap from the Moon Wail and a blast of electricity before flying high into the air and perform a double dive-kick that pierces right through their target, causing it to explode behind them (like you do).

  • Burning Mirage Tiara

Combo attack with Agnes: Usagi throws a pair of Mirage Tiara Boomerangs while Agnes unleashes two blasts of her fire at them, surrounding them in a flaming aura that increases the blades' speed and impact damage.

  • Triple Blade Buster

Combo attack w/ Nyoka & Emily: Usagi and Emily stab their target from the front and back, then raise them into the air. Then, Nyoka drops from the sky and cuts through the enemy with her Laser Arm for the killshot.

===[[Neo Queen Se

Group combination attack: Usagi's trump card. When facing an enemy that's too strong, Usagi and her friends will combine their powers into a ball of pure, combined energy, with Usagi encasing it all in with a blast from her Moon Rod before throwing it down at the target. It can be formed with only four others, but for the truly powerful foes, all of them will partake in creating the ball, making it even bigger than it usually is.

Relationships[]

Neo Queen Serenity[]

King Endymion[]

Pluto[]

Pluto was the first true friend Usagi made. As such, she loves the Guardian of the Door of Time dearly.

Sunset Shimmer[]

Sunset was the first of the soon-to-be Knights that Usagi met, and as such thinks very highly of her. The Moon Princes views the ex-magical student as a protective older sister, with her being the first person she'll go to whenever she's feeling scared or depressed over a personal issue.

Catra[]

Though not to as much of an extent as Kamille, Usagi views Catra as a cool older sibling. She also greatly admires her courage in the middle of even their toughest fights and can only hope that she can be as fearless as him someday. While she will sometimes go along with Catra's antics, she will be quick to chastise her when she messes up big time and puts one of their friends in danger. Although like the other founding members, she doesn't much care for how brutal Catra can get with their enemies at times.

Pink Diamond[]

Artemis[]

Starscream[]

Kamille Bidan[]

Kamille is one of Usagi's closest friends on the team, with Usagi viewing him as an older brother. He was the first person she opened up to about her past, and after that trust, she'll often turn to him when she's scared and confused about something. His dedication to protecting her during their first battles against the Heralds of Unicron was one of Usagi's biggest inspirations to become a hero, and made a promise to protect him from harm, just as had for her.

Nyoka[]

While Usagi loves all of her newfound friends/family, Nyoka is possibly her closest companion on the team. She and Emily were the first friends around her age (well, physically at least, but she could also relate to the two on that front, too) to treat her with any kindness, and she often acts as her emotional support for when she's trying to test out a new spell or when she just needs someone to talk to. Their personalities often support one another as Usagi acts as encouragement for her, while Nyoka acts as a voice of reason for the future Moon Princess and come up with ideas/battle plans for the two to use against enemies. She also greatly respects her abilities as a pseudo-strategist, and also appreciates the advice she gives about how to handle being a good big sister for Roscarl. Although she will give her a few points in how she can improve her relationship with Mohm; mostly in how obviously it's good to keep her safe, but she needs to do certain things on her own to improve herself as a person. They've also bonded over their shared love for their parents & the great work they've done in the past but also fear that they might let them down.

Emily[]

Like Nyoka, Usagi is incredibly close to Emily, with her being the first person around her age (well, physically at least) to treat her with genuine kindness. The two are something of kindred spirits thanks to their shared optimism, dedication to fighting evil and desires to hold up their families legacies. As such, she'll often act as her emotional support for when she's trying to test out a new spell or when she just needs someone to relax & hang out with. Thusly, Usagi has returned their support in kind, with her & Emily coming up with fun combos to use in battle. At the same time, she acts as her No.2 woman on the battlefield, watching each other's backs against any wayward enemies and letting Em take charge of their group when she's otherwise "preoccupied" (particularly when she has do deal with a certain rival). On a more personal matter, she acted as sort of a confidant on how the knightly Droid should handle her crush on Agnes.

Roscarl[]

Usagi loves Roscarl very much, viewing her as a surrogate little sister. Perhaps out of an unknown desire to have a sibling of her own, she felt a click with the little Droid when she found her abandoned in that old junkyard. When she saw how distraught she was about her creator having abandoned her, and even worse not having any memories of them, she connected it to how lost & afraid she felt before she and the Knights found each other, so she felt it was her responsibility to help her get out of it, even giving her a unique new name to help her feel more like her own person. She was a little hesitant on letting her join her and the other Knights in battle, but when she saw how strong & determined she was to help - especially after finding out how durable her armor truly was, she more than happily let her join (under close advisement, of course). From there, she took the young Droid under her wing and took upon himself to train him, she went on to help train her and improve her skills with her dagger and how she could help out on the battlefield, as well as share stories about Crystal Tokyo & some of the stories about her mother's heroic deeds that her father had shared with her. The two only grew closer as time goes on, to the point of seeing each other as sisters and always stick by each other's side, willing to put themselves and/or anything at risk for those they love and care about. She also shows great faith in her skills, always there to show her that even though she doesn't have as "cool" and "showy" powers as she does, her little sister's dagger and invulnerable body have just as much merit. She's also quick to remind her that even if one of them is organic and the other is mechanical, she loves her no matter what. Although she will give her the occasional scolding whenever she and Mohm sneak off unannounced and nearly get scrapped, especially if they roped Honey into it as well.

Roscarl's Creator[]

Even though the two never met, just from Roscarl's recollection of her time with him, Usagi has a very negative view of her little sister's "father" for seemingly just throwing her away just because she wasn't good enough.

Mohm[]

Usagi views the youngest of the Kabuto sisters as another of her closest friends. Though she doesn't focus on her development as much as she does Roscarl's, she always tries to help Mohm develop her own skills in some way, either by pitching in to help patch up Orguss or cheering her on from the sidelines whenever the young Droid gets into a battle on her own, with her bravery and courage in spite of her age impressing her on several occasions. She was also one of the first instances Usagi saw of a Droid adapting and changing on their own without the influence or orders from someone else, wanting to become a Mecha pilot & aid her sister and the others in fighting the forces of evil because she wanted to; an aspect that gained her a lot of the future Moon Princess's respect and making the youngest Kabuto daughter a true, firm friend that she'd fly into battle with anytime, with high hopes that she'll grow up to be someone amazing. She also really enjoys her cooking.

Atros[]

Atros is both Usagi's greatest rival and one of her best friends. They have known each other for a long time, but their relationship is rather complicated, the two of them having been summed up as "best frenemies". Being built specifically to fight her, the Pretty Guardian trainee and the young battle Droid were fierce rivals for a majority of the first season, with Atros constantly egging her on to fight her one on one in the middle of missions, or even just pulling childish pranks when the two happened to run into each other on the side of the street. But as the group continued to recruit/give shelter to more and more of the Renegades' androids, she started to have second thoughts about her rival. This, along with seeing how she treated the rest of her teammates, led way to Usagi trying to convince her to separate herself from that one-way street of battle.

When her rival finally did decide to follow her lead, while they were much more friendly towards each other, they still maintained a bit of rivalry. The two of them are no strangers to butting heads over a disagreement at worst, or partaking in banter with each other at best, as well as occasionally trying to outdo each other. So while they can sometimes still be seen fighting one another verbally or physically, this does actually help to sharpen their skills even farther, always keeping each other on their toes and will have each other's backs. And even then, the two put a lot of trust in one another's abilities and work near perfectly to get the job done.

Ayako[]

Ayako was the first "enemy" Droid that Usagi made friends with. While she did see her as a "criminal" at first, Usagi saw that there was a lot more to her than just being a mindless killing machine, and thusly decided to reach out to her and give her a chance like the other founding members of the team gave her after the whole "Black Lady" debacle. Together, they are a solid team, showing well-oiled collaboration in combat, if their "Combination Crash" is anything to go by. And while she does have some "bugs" to work out with her attitude - namely with immature she can be at times - she's still willing to give her a chance, standing by her side through thick and thin when she needs support, no matter what.

Agnes[]

Like the other Droids on Earth Prime that exhibited elemental-like powers, Usagi was enamoured by Agnes's fire abilities upon their first encounter. However, also upon their first meeting, the future princess saw someone that looked lost, that was scared to open up to others after being away from others for so long and the ordeals she went through with her original creator; something that she could relate well to her "youth" back home. So, Usagi decided to help her break out of her shell & try to help apply herself a little more both on the field of battle and around the rest of the team when they were "off the clock" and just palling around the Glomar. Since then, the two have come to trust each other very well, both in terms of their character and in each other's abilities. They have great coordination with each other, allowing them to fight against their opposition with ease. She would also sometimes give the old "wink-wink, nudge-nudge" about getting her and Emily together.

Lorelai Heinrich[]

Usagi and Lorelai got along very quickly when they first met, But upon learning of her ability to don a suit of armor similarly to her transformation into a Guardian, the two found kindred spirits in each other, and have been good friends since they first met. While she does feel some guilt about how her finding her and her father in their little cabin might've led to the Renegades finding them, she knows Lorelai doesn't blame her for it, and she does take solace in knowing that she's at least helping her use her powers for the greater good. She was also very adament in helping Lorelai get out of her more violent approach to fighting their enemies.

Meryl[]

Usagi related to Meryl on a rather personal level, relating her shyness and former isolation to how she acted before she met the Knights. As such, she'll often give her the personal space she needs when necessary and tries not put as much pressure on her in missions as she does the rest of their team, especially after she learned about her anxiety. At the same time though, she is confident in her skills and is always grateful for her help in the middle of a fight (and yeah, she does think her ice powers are pretty sweet).

Drum[]

From Agnes and Lorelai's testaments and the few times where she actually helped them fight other L.O.S.R. robots, Usagi felt that Drum was a good person and . And like the others, she tried desperately tried to help her turn away from the evil organization.

Lime[]

Iris[]

Tobikage[]

Like the others, Usagi was very weary of the Flying Shadow at first due to the dangers his speed and weapons became towards the team. However, she also picked up on his sense of honor.

Chaotique[]

Usagi has a friendly, yet professional relationship with Kay-Kay. While they can work well together in combat, she doesn't usually expect the speedy Droid to contribute to efforts that means saving the world of the goodness of her heart. She also, like practically everyone else on the team, often finds herself getting really irritated by her pranks; her least favorite of them were finding her hair tied around anything. Regardless, she does appreciate her help, even if she does so for her own benefit or "she's bored".

Magneto[]

Cosmo[]

Like the others, Usagi was quick to side with Cosmo when she first arrived, her especially when she saw how scared to death she was and didn't want to go back to that awful place, reminding her all too well with the team's battle with the Black Moon and Unicron's other Heralds.

Cynthia[]

Honey Kisaragi[]

Honey Jr.[]

Like the rest of her friends, Usagi felt sympathy for Honey Jr.'s situation.

Koji Kabuto[]

Ryoma Nagare[]

Earth-chan[]

Black Lady[]

Heralds of Unicron[]

L.O.S.R.[]

Like the rest of her compatriots, Usagi despises the Renegade organization. For Usagi in particular, she despised how they treat their creations - no, their children - like tools for their mad schemes, and how many of their members are seemingly out to conquer the world just for the thrill. However, she's a lot lighter on the organization's creations, knowing that many of them are just following their creators' orders. But even then, she's a lot less forgiving for the ones that know what they're doing is wrong and they either don't care or are happily willing to hurt & kill.

Dr. Neos[]

Usagi hates Neos almost as much as Atros does, despising how she treated her creation like a simple tool when she should have treated her like a daughter.

Notes[]

Usagi's arc in the Mini-Series, while meant to be a mix between her characterizations/stories in the original anime and Crystal (mainly in how she acts less bratty and more mature & polite like she does in Crystal), is somewhat similar to that of Takua/Takanuva of Lego's Bionicle, as both youngsters act as audience surrogates and possess great, hidden powers that help their comrades beat impossible odds. Form there, her story in the rest of the series is meant to take on the role of the typical team leader, leading a large majority of the Knights' "main fighting force" in a role loosely based off of her mother's original ventures with the Sailor Guardians and their battles against the forces of evil, but is mainly inspired by how leaders like Nightwing lead their teams; being part of a team that acts as a found family of outcasts of sorts, seeing them all as friends above all else & trying to connect to them emotionally, taking the time to help them work out their problems and giving them a bit of hope to them & others. Her attitude towards leadership is also based on various Sentai Red Rangers, mainly the ones from the 80's and 90's in how some acted as big brothers/shoulders to lean on for their respective teams but always ready to pick them back up when they're down & help them realize their best selves; although her story is a little more similar to the Ultramen rather than the Earth-based Riders & Sentai, as she's a being from another world that comes to view the Earth featured here as a second home, similarly to Ultras that make up their own human forms rather than taking on a host like Seven, Leo and Mebius. She's also fairly similar to Ultraman Zero, with the two being the children of famous heroes that go off to find their own paths in the fight for freedom and even forming their own teams of mish-mashed heroes (though that last comparison is purely coincidental, as the author just recently got into the character).

  • However, certain steps are taken so as to make sure she doesn't become too much of an important presence in the story; basically, try to divert her away from being as "Mary Sue-ey" as possible by making her not she's the most important/influential person on everyone else's lives and the story itself that hordes all the power-ups for herself (something that even affected her mother in her story). Such examples include her teammates saving her neck in a fight just as much as she saves their's, others lending her a hand to turn the tide of a battle unlike many other central protagonists in team-based anime, and even training at various points throughout either by herself or with the rest of her "squad", which recieves lip service multiple times as to how she needs to keep it up since she's the only human in her personal group. This also includes little "off-beat" quirks like how she will make a few snarky comments & quips like in the 90s series and her huge appetite, which she did share with her mother in the original series.
  • Usagi and Roscarl's bond is meant to be a nod to the tagalong kids just about every Toku heroes of the 20th century. As another nod to the Ultra series, one such influence is the bond between Hideki Go, the hero of Ultraman Jack, and the series' main tagalong kid Jiro in how they share a sibling bond and even though Usagi doesn't have all the answers for her own adoptive sibling, like Go, she just wants to do right by her. However, it's also meant to take cues from other sibling bonds akin to Sonic and Tails' dynamic where the younger "sib" helps out in fights since Roscarl is meant to be a fighter in of herself in this series.

Usagi has been aged up (well, physically, anyway) when she first appears in the series. In the opening Mini-Series, she's at the age she was in the third season of the original series, S. Then, she takes on her Super S appearance for the remainder of the series, mostly to make her transformation into Neo Sailor Moon and fighting capabilities later in the series a little more believable.

Since her mother isn't here, Usagi doesn't gain her "Chibi-Usa" nickname. In a similar vein, instead of Sailor Chibi Moon, her Sailor Guardian form has a new name to make it both a little cooler and to act as a nod to her mother's title.

In addition to powers that were excluded in the original SM anime like being able to fly and a strength increase, Usagi makes much more use of the other weapons both she and her mother simultaneously possess other than their Moon Rods.

  • The Sailor Kick, which was only used every-so-often and is obviously a homage to Kamen Rider's "Rider Kick", is made into a recurring attack (that actually defeats villains sometimes).
  • Her Red Hair Beads' sound amplifying powers are also played up a bit more, with Usagi using them a lot more than just a couple of times like her mother did, though the way she uses it is different as she simply calls for them to be used like any other attack, with it working similarly to Volfogg's Melting Siren.
  • Her "Pink Sugar Heart Attack" has been made into an actual attack like it was in the manga and Crystal, rather than the joke it was presented as in the 90's anime. Although as somewhat as a homage to that, when she first uses it at the start of the first season, it only bounces off enemies; however, this is actually justified by it still being a new technique Usagi's just come up with, being her first original attack not based off of one of her mother's spells, though it is quickly made into a powerful(-ish) attack for the remainder of the series.

  • The Moon Saber and Moon Tiara Arrow is original attacks/weapons based off of a pair of fan ideas for attacks for her mother in the original anime in Animage Magazine as discussed in this article (which was drawn by the anime's actual character designer for the first two seasons, Kazuko Tadano). This is obviously to help give her a bit more of an arsenal similar to other Japanese transforming heroes considering how much more of a focus there is on fighting in this series compared to the original Sailor Moon story.
  • Her Moon Tiara (which was she never shown using in any of the source material) has been given a couple of new abilities, with the Tiara Blade in particular being heavily inspired by Gurren Lagann and how it uses its "sunglasses" as both a boomerang and sword, to give her a more diverse set of weapons & abilities, as well as other heroes that use boomerang weapons like Midorenger's Midomerang and Ultraseven's Eye Slugger. It also comes with its own set of special moves based off of a couple other uses of boomerang-like weapon, like her & Emily's Moon Tiara Sword technique being inspired by Dancouga Nova's "Dankuu Dankaiken" attack, the aforementioned Zambot 3-inspired Mirage Moon Crash, or her Moon Tiara Cross inspired by the "Silver Cross" used by GaoGaiGar's Volfogg.
  • 1The Combination Crush actually gets its name from a combo move Daitarn and Zambot 3 perform in some of the Super Robot Wars games they appear in together.
  • The "Cosmic Moon Crash" is meant to be a finisher similar to other Sentai group finishers that aren't the simple combining weapons, though a little more extreme, with the move being a little bit more Spirit Bomb or Stoner Sunshine in its approach.
