The Shadow Bots are a series of robots from Ninja Senshi Tobikage and are recurring villains in Knights of the Multiverse Season 1, first appearing at the start of the second third of the season. They are a series of mass-produced Droids developed by Dr. Maya that are based off of his first Droid, Tobikage. They were made to act as replacements for the L.O.S.R. organization's Soldier Robots in their efforts to conquer the world and destroy the Crystal Knights, realizing that they needed much faster fighters with the Crystal Knights putting a halt to many of their mad schemes.

Personalities[]

Unlike their "big brother", the Shadow Bots have no distinct personalities, only acting like mindless drones that only follow the orders of whoever uses them and attack whoever they're programmed to fight.

History[]

Season 1[]

Abilities & Equipment[]

  • Jet Boosters

Each Shadow Bot unit has a pair of boosters built into their back, close to their underarms, that allow them to fly short distances.

  • Super Speed

The Shadow Bots are able to move at incredible speeds, sometimes to the point where they seemingly turn invisible to the naked eye, flashing out of sight in a second.

  • Knee Missiles

Each Shadow Bot has a missile launcher that emerges from their knee pads.

  • Needle Shot

The panel on the Shadow Bot's neck folds out to fire a series of pin-like needles that shoot out like bullets.

  • Kamas

The Shadow Bots' main weapon is a metal Kama, which they can use both as a melee weapon and a projectile, throwing it at their destined target.

Notes[]

The similarities between the Shadow Bots and Tobikage were fairly superficial in the original Tobikage anime. Here, they're taken to the extreme, complete with them becoming the main grunt units for the majority of the first season. This also makes them similar to characters like the Shocker Riders from the original Kamen Rider series, with them being mass-produced grunts based off of one of the series' heroes, though obviously appearing much earlier than they did (kind of like how the Shocker Riders were portrayed as the main grunts in the reboot film, Kamen Rider: The Next).

The robots' name actually comes from the name they were given in the US dub for Tobikage, Ninja Robots. In the original Japanese, they were called "Shaman". But similarly to characters like the Battle Borgs, their American name was chosen to keep things simple. Plus, it does somewhat correlate to Tobi's name being the Japanese term for "Flying Shadow".
