Sayaka Yumi is a character from Mazinger Z (1973) and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse. She and her husband Koji Kabuto act as some of the head directors of the New Photon/Saotome Labs and often lend their services to The Knights, like fixing up their mechs after a hard-fought battle or lending them info about a new enemy, though she will step up and fight in her own personal Super Robot, the Energer Z, when she needs to. She's also the proud mother of three Droids he oversaw the development of - Lilulu, Nyoka and Mohm.

Personality[]

Sayaka is straightforward, brave, prideful, and independent, mostly seen whenever she gets in a fight with Koji whenever he says something stupid (directed at her or in otherwise). However, like Koji, she's very hotblooded and is never afraid to turn away from a challenge, as seen by how quickly she rushes into her mech to protect her friends. That said though, she's much calmer in the heat of battle that Koji is, often taking the advice of her peers and analyzing the situations before running in. However, under her rough exterior is a calm and caring person who'll listen to any of her friends' problems and comfort them in their times of need, best seen by how she treats her adoptive robotic children.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

After she and the Mazinger Team defeated the Myceane Empire, she assisted them in defending their earth from giant monsters and robots of all kinds for the next several years, even with some assistance from the Getter Team every so often. About three years prior to the main series' events, after her father was promoted to the Japanese Prime Minister, she becomes the head director at the Photon Research Institute. She would still occasionally still assist the Mazinger and Getter teams in her Diana A, but after it kept getting destroyed one too many times, she had it commemorated to a Mazinger-themed museum. Two and a half years later, a new Photon Research Lab was constructed in the center of Tokyo, where she, Koji and Michiru became the heads of the laboratory.

One of the new lab's first experiments was to create an android that could replicate Honey Kisaragi's Airborne Element Fixing Device (with Honey's permission, of course), with the armor being based off of her Armor Knight form. The project was a success, and Emily was brought online, able to summon her armor at will, having a sword that was as strong as either of Great Mazinger's Mazinger Blades (maybe even stronger) and, of course, developing a full consciousness like all other androids on Earth Prime. Sayaka and Koji would then turn her over to Tetsuya and Jun to train her and show her the world, where the trio would grow close, with Tetsuya and Jun going as far as to "adopt" the young android as their own daughter, which was quite the surprise to all of the Lab staff. Admittedly, this family dynamic her friends had made for themselves did make her a little jealous.

Relationships[]

Koji Kabuto[]

As her husband and long-time partner, Sayaka loves Koji greatly. Of course, he doesn't always make it easy. Even a decade later, he's still teasing her and challenging her to dumb little contests (not to mention the loss of Lilulu strained their relationship for a while), even sometimes making a competition for Nyoka's affection.

Lilulu[]

What started out as a pet project for Sayaka slowly turned into the first member of her and Koji's new family. She loved Lilulu very much, as if she were her own flesh and blood.

So she thought she had been destroyed, to say she was crushed would be an understatement. Her duties as chief of the New Labs and the amount of support she received from her friends & co-workers, but like Koji, she felt something in her heart break when she lost her adoptive daughter, and the wound hasn't completely healed. She still keeps a watch out for any sign that she's still alive, just out of pure hope.

Nyoka[]

Like Koji, Sayaka loves Nyoka deeply, regarding her as her adoptive daughter. Though she had her doubts about her at first, thinking that her weapons would make her too dangerous (along with thinking for a while that Koji only brought her into her home just to replace Lilulu), the little gynoid has managed to prove herself time and time again, and continues to do so as she works with the Knights.

Dr. Rindolph[]

Mohm[]

Sayaka loves her youngest Droid daughter just as much as she loves the elder two. She's also really thankful on how well Mohm took care of their house whenever she or Koji weren't available. She was also really proud when she learned that she'd become a pilot, though she did hope that she didn't get as big a head about it as her father was.

Emily[]

Sayaka loves her robotic niece very much.

Tetsuya Tsurugi[]

Michiru Saotome[]

With both taking over from their fathers as heads of their respective institutes, Sayaka and Michiru entered into a partnership where the two work on joint projects that focus on new defenses for EDC forces and other scientific breakthroughs. As business partners, the two had already formed a friendship during the Imperial Wars, and as business partners, they've formed an even tighter bond.
