Nyoka Kabuto (formerly Niki) is a character from Astro Boy (1980) and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse. She is an android created by Dr. Rindolph, but was later taken in by Koji Kabuto and Sayaka Yumi, who adopted her as their daughter. She then went on to help them and her new friends in their future ventures.

Personality[edit | edit source]

At first, Nyoka was an very delicate (figuratively, of course) and shy gynoid. She was always quite sweet, polite and somewhat innocent-minded, but she mostly kept to herself, never raising her voice in fear of saying anything that she thinks might upset others. This is due to how her creator treated her, with him mostly ignoring her and when he did acknowledge her, he... didn't always respond well, resulting in her being sheltered and afraid to speak up for herself & be honest with her feelings. However, she was open to befriending the rest of the Knights, and did already seem to be trying to express herself, as seen by how open she and Emily are with each other.

As the series goes on, she does become more confident in herself and becomes much more sociable, quickly forming friendships with almost everyone that joins the team as it continues to grow, and even becomes capable of throwing a quip every now and again. Heck, she even manages to stand up to up to her creator when he tried to get her back. Like Emily, she's inherited some of her adoptive parents' behavior, mostly their desires to help people, with her often going to any length possible to make others happy, even if it means sacrificing her own happiness or health in the process. She's also quite clever, often coming up with very creative (though sometimes strange) ways to infiltrate bases and taking down bad guys.

History[edit | edit source]

Pre-Series[edit | edit source]

About two years ago, Nyoka, or "Niki" as she was originally called, was created by one Dr. Rindolph for two purposes: to act as his personal assistant to help him in further evil endeavors (as well as build her with all sorts of weapons, probably for some kind of evil scheme later down the road), and to act as his own child, as he had also longed to have one of his own. However, Rindolph quickly proved that he was unworthy he was to be a parent all along, barely giving her any attention and when he did, he would only chastise and even her for making the tiniest mistakes. So naturally, she decided to run away (with Rindolph barely noticing, of course).

Mini-Series[edit | edit source]

Nyoka made her first appearance in when the Knights arrived on Earth Prime.

Season 1[edit | edit source]

Fearing that even her father's legendary Super Robot might not last him much longer, Nyoka sought to try and design a new Mazinger for him. Unfortunately, she was having some trouble, so some of the other Knights decided to throw in their own suggestions, such as Amity proposing the simple idea of bulking it up and increasing its strength, Catra putting forward the idea of having swords come out of its shoulders like the Getter Robo's Tomahawks, Usagi recommending the forearms being given spirals like a drill to give it an extra, well, punch, Tom giving it devil horns 'cause it looks cool & he thought it might help emphasis the "God or Devil" thing he heard Koji talk about. Ayako even advocates adding a spare, super strong sword in the center of the chest, but Lapis pointed out how that would be sort of redundant with the shoulder swords.

Season 2[edit | edit source]

Season 3[edit | edit source]

Abilities[edit | edit source]

  • Super Strength

Thanks to her robotic nature, Nyoka has a great amount of strength. She can lift a great deal of weight (for reference, something around the size and weight of one of the Mazinger robots' arms).

  • Early Warning System/Scanners/Light

The button on Nyoka's head crest is actually a highly-advanced early warning system that allows her to detect nearby Super Robots and other androids. This works in conjunction with the high-quality scanners built into her optics that allow her to scan objects up to 40 feet away, and even pinpoint an opponent's weak spots. The button can also emit a light that can reach out to about 5 feet.

  • Electronic Ports

Nyoka has four ports lined on each side of her head crest, which she can use to linked into any electronic device (similarly to R2-D2) that allow her to get a readout of the device's systems (like finding systems in a mech suit that specifically need repairing).

  • Jet-Powered Flight

Nyoka can retract her feet into her legs to reveal a set of rocket thrusters, which allow her to fly great distances.

  • Photon Beam Fingers

Nyoka is able to shoot Photon lasers from her pointer fingers.

  • Laser Cannon Arms

Nyoka has laser cannons stored in both of her forearms that fires incredibly powerful Photon Beams, though she usually saves these for more dangerous opponents/situations, preferring to stick mostly with her Finger Beams.

Relationships[edit | edit source]

Dr. Rindolph[edit | edit source]

Though he is her creator, Nyoka never thought of Rindolph as her father.

Koji Kabuto & Sayaka Yumi[edit | edit source]

Koji and Sayaka are the most important people in Nyoka's life, viewing the two as her mother and father. She's always willing to help them in their projects, and is quick to protect them, even at the cost of her own life. She used to cling pretty tight to the two of them before the events of the series, but as she started spending more time with Usagi and the rest of her new friends, she started spending less and less time with them, though she still helps them out whenever she can. A good example of this is how during a good chunk of the first season, she'd often try to seek council from Koji and Sayaka about her problems first then go to the others second, but as they continued to bond, she stopped relying on their guidance so much. Of course, she does get annoyed by all of their bickering from time to time, especially when it revolves around trying to gain her affection, and she'll be quick to call them out on their antics.

Tetsuya Tsurugi & Jun Tsurugi-Hono[edit | edit source]

As he is Koji's adoptive brother, Nyoka thinks of Tetsuya as her uncle, and his wife, Jun, as her aunt.

Emily[edit | edit source]

Despite being created by different people and technically being cousins, Nyoka and Emily act more like simple sisters, with Nyoka being more the meek and soft-spoken of the duo.

Honey Kisaragi[edit | edit source]

As one of Koji's longtime friends, and another android, Nyoka views Honey as an Aunt of sorts, even to the point of acknowledging her as "Aunt Honey".

Honey Jr.[edit | edit source]

Agnes[edit | edit source]

Getter Team[edit | edit source]

Ruri Saotome[edit | edit source]

Ruri was the first true friend that Nyoka made outside the "family", and the same is true for Ruri. As such, the two have a strong, sister-like bond.

Usagi Tsukino[edit | edit source]

Usagi is Nyoka's best friend, the two (along with Emily & Ruri, of course) often getting into their own side missions while the other Knights are doing more "serious" tasks. She's also very important in Nyoka's own journey, as Usagi pushing her into trying new things gave her the inspiration to act more independent.

Notes[edit | edit source]

In her original depiction, Nyoka only appeared in the 52nd episode of the series, "Astro's First Love". In it, she was actually created using stolen blueprints to a prototype of Astro himself that housed a neutron bomb, which made up a lot of her internal components. At the end of the episode, the bomb inside her is activated and to prevent it from exploding, she is completely dismantled, and due to the main villain of the episode destroying the blueprints earlier, she was unable to be rebuilt. This version of Nyoka, obviously, doesn't follow her original storyline. In fact, her backstory is based off of Astro's to parallel her original counterpart's connection to him, such as her weapons systems are based directly off of his abilities (minus a couple weapons like his butt machine guns. That would have just been really awkward), and being adopted by the head (or in this case, heads) of a scientific facility of some sort.

Just as Ruri takes inspiration from Go of Getter Robo Armageddon, Nyoka takes inspiration from LiSA from Mazinger Z Infinity, serving as an information storage unit for most of the Knights' data and other important information related to Earth Prime, as well as acting as Koji's assistant of sorts, and thinking of him and Sayaka as her mother and father.

In some instances, Nyoka will activate both of her Arm Cannons and fire them at full blast while spinning in a Pirouette-like twirl, in a manner inspired by the Wing Zero from Gundam Wing.
