Mitsuko is a character from Astro Boy (1980) and is a minor character in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 1. She's a Droid created to be essentially a new definition of the "mystical bond between man and machine", capable of fusing with the transforming racing car/super robot Galvion, with which she has a very successful racing career on Earth Prime alongside her human brother Koichi.
Personality[]
MItsuko is a very kind and sometimes playful Droid with a big heart. She enjoys playing with her brother and while she does like teasing him sometimes over his mechanic's skills, she loves him dearly and fully entrusts the safety of herself and Galvion to him. She also got along with most of the Crystal Knights quite easily upon their first meeting. However, she takes her main function of being a racer very seriously. Thanks to her years adapting to Galvion's system, when Mitsuko is behind the wheel, she becomes a very calm, quick-thinking young woman. Whether on the track or in the cockpit, she's quick to the punch and can adapt to any problem that confronts her, making her quite possibly the perfect mixture of Droid and Super Robot. She also displays a great deal of independence, sometimes doing things like taking detours just because she feels like it.
History[]
Pre-Series[]
Mitsuko was created in an experiment by her father to create a Droid and transforming mecha that shared an electronic brain. He had originally designed her to resemble a child, so she could gain a human experience growing up alongside her "brother" Koichi while she also trained to get used to her giant counterpart's systems. Then, over the next seven years, he would slowly upgrade her into a body to reflect Koichi's growth and her growing mental state. But even from the beginning she displayed a surprising deal of independence, doing things just because she felt like, like adding a cute little heart to her dress just because she thought it looked cute and developing her father's admiration for racing, becoming especially fond of Hiroshi Shiba.
Season 1[]
Race Against the Clock! The Metal Racers!
Season 3[]
Mitsuko, Koichi, and subsequently Galvion, were two of the many allies that appeared in the later part of Season 3 to aid the Knights during the Guild of the Multiverse's invasion of Earth Prime.
Skills & Equipment[]
- Electronic Brain
- Hand-to-Hand Combat
To better integrate herself with Galvion's systems, Mitsuko's father taught her plenty of hand-to-hand combat moves to help defend herself, though she is more of a thinker than a fighter.
- Connection Port
Mitsuko has a small red port on her chest which allows her to connect directly to Galvion's systems.
- Racing Skills
Relationships[]
Her Father[]
Koichi[]
Even if he's a human and she's a Droid, after "growing up" together, Mitsuko loves her big brother very much. Sure, she does tease him every now and again, and he does so to her in return, but what siblings don't find time to pick on each other every now and again?
Hiroshi Shiba[]
Hiroshi was Mitsuko's idol when she was "growing up", being the one who inspired her to get into racing in the first place; and of course, when she learned that she would be racing against him, she was extremely honored.

Notes[]
Mitsuko's ability to fuse with Galvion is - like many of her android compatriots in this series - a juxtaposition on her origin in the source material. There, her late father created a super race car called "the White Planet" with its own electronic brain, as well as a spare electronic brain for it and he built it into a special robot. That robot was of course Mitsuko, with Koichi never knowing that his sister was really a robot (somehow) and she willingly gave up her life to be built into the White Planet for her brother's sake. For her KotM counterpart, this idea eventually spiraled into an idea of making her and the vehicle have a sort-of psychic connection thanks to their shared electronic brains.
- This also gives room to show a few more scenes of Mitsuko and Koichi together, and even go a little more in-depth about their father.
