Lorelai Heinrich is a character from Mazinger Z and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 1. She's a Droid created by Schtroheim Heinrich that uses a powerful suit of armor called the "Danube Armor". Her father originally created her so she could be the strongest Robot on Earth Prime to prove his superior intellect, but he ended up caring about her and raised her as his natural, human daughter. This led to her developing a kind heart & love for those around her, which also led the way to her befriending other superpowered & lost Droids when she became a part of the Crystal Knights, going onto join them on their future adventures after her father's death.

Personality[]

Lorelai is a sweet and kind young girl who enjoys nature - the ocean and its rivers in particular - and is very polite & open towards almost everyone she meets, making her able to easily get along quite well with most people. This has allowed her to have a very warm and close connection to Usagi & the other Droids on the team, who have essentially become a second family for her. Possibly as an influence from her father wanting to live her life however she wanted after his death, she keeps an open mind about virtually anything, even giving the villains the team faces a chance at redemption if they so desire. This also makes her a very forgiving person, as she's often one of the first members to forgive their foes for their wrongdoings and will even try & convince them to stop their pointless fighting.

However, this does not mean she's naive, or even that she's unwilling to fight. She was initially hesitant in using her powers, both out of fear of how she should live with her father gone and not sure if she even wanted to fight. However, she quickly learned how terrible and destructive the Renegades truly were and how they would tear more innocent families apart like her's, realizing that if she had the ability to do something about it, she would going to use it. and became dedicated to bringing justice to the monsters that killed her father. This sense of justice became hardwired into her A.I. coding, with her since never backing down from a fight and is willing to make whatever sacrifice is necessary to save the day. She's more than willing to fight anyone that threatens her person or her friends and can get very fierce while doing it, sometimes even getting a little ruthless even on her human enemies; though this aspect to her behavior only occurred during the Knights' war with L.O.S.R., as her grieving over her father's death was still running strong.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

Lorelai was created by Dr. Schtroheim Heinrich to be a robot that would be strong enough to take on any opponent, even the legendary Super Robots. However, as he kept this part of her a secret for her first few weeks of life, Lorelai believed he built her simply to have a little companionship in his life (something she believed was because of how ugly he was). From there, she worked to clean the house or galivant around the surrounding woods whenever her father wasn't homeschooling her.

Abilities & Equipment[]

Without her armor, Lorelai has the abilities of a standard civilian-type android (as in, none at all) to the point that if one didn't notice her mechanical arms & legs, she could be mistaken for a normal human.

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat Skills

Usagi and Emily have run Lorelai through basic hand-to-hand combat training to better defend herself even when she doesn't have her armor equipped.

  • Hyper-Sensitive Hearing

Lorelai's hearing can be amplified by 1000 times.

Danube Armor[]

By removing the bow in her hair/head and shouting the vocal command "Suit On!", Lorelai is able to summon a suit of armor constructed of Super Alloy Z named after the Danube River of her father's homeland. It covers her entire body, except for her face and upper arms, and her hair stretches out into a long ponytail. Her helmet also connects via the now empty port where her bow usually resides and connects directly to her electronic brain, giving her all the information she needs on the armor's weapons and equipment. When dormant, it is colored black, but when it attaches to Lorelai's body, it turns blue like the Danube waterways that Dr. Heinrich always admired. This is also why she has simple armor covering her body rather than artificial skin, so as to make the connection points of the armor and her body more accurate, complete with her helmet connecting to the port where her bow should be. Not only is it able to take some serious damage - able to tank blasts from lasers, extreme heat & cold blasts and even full-fledged missiles - but it also comes with a selection of weapons and other features.

  • Durability

As previously stated, the Danube Armor was constructed from Super Alloy Z, making Lorelai almost totally impervious to enemy laser, missile and even some elemental attacks.

  • Strength & Agility Enhancement

The Danube Armor increases Lorelai's strength and agility ten-fold. Strength-wise, the suit allows her to lift objects many times her size & deliver punches strong enough to pierce through boulders. For agility, it allows her to a lot more nimble and move about much faster and easier, allowing her to maneuver around enemy attacks & other oncoming obstacles at near-record speed/reaction time.

  • Rocket Boots

The Danube Armor's boots have rockets built into the bottoms of each foot that allow Lorelai to fly long distances.

  • Energy Ponytail

Lorelai's hair is composed of a strong, thin metal that's able to bend in many ways & take a lot of damage. When she attaches the Danube armor, her hair "converts" into a long ponytail that extends from the back of her helmet that can be used as a whip or to entangle enemies, or even be used to cleanly cut enemies or oncoming projectile weapons like spears, and even special attacks like grappling an opponent & blasting them with her Photon Beam .

  • Energy Strike

Lorelai clenches her fists and heaves her head backwards, generating a good bit of her energy into her ponytail. She then thrusts her head forward, sending her ponytail forward and piercing right through its target, the energy subsequently being released to channel through said target and destroy them from the inside. Can destroy most human-sized enemies in one hit.

  • Photon Beam

Lorelai is able to fire a Photon Beam from the orb-like bulb on the top of her helmet.

  • Wind Gauntlets

Lorelai's gauntlets have a pair of extendable fans that are able to generate incredibly strong bursts of cyclone-like winds. They allow her to create concussive force that are capable of repel back enemies and either cushion of air to catch falling allies. For weaker robotic opponents, these winds are even strong enough to completely rip them to pieces. They're even strong enough to even repel other strong winds and elemental-based attacks as strong as Mazinger Z's Rust Hurricane to protect herself and those behind her.

  • German Blizzard
Lorelai can create a much stronger, freezing cold torrent of wind from her fans that's strong enough to freeze even Super Robots (at least, partially).
  • Spin Tempest Storm
Lorelai spins at high speeds to surround herself in raging winds, essentially turning herself into a tornado-like drill as she then charges through her enemy.
  • "Suit Off"

With the vocal command "Suit Off", Lorelai's armor detaches from her body.

Combo Attacks[]

  • Double Blizzard

Combo attack w/ Minerva: Lorelai & Minerva blast both their turbines at full power to give their opponent a extra-strong freeze over. This is usually followed up by one of the others performing another attack to land the killing blow.

  • Lightning Rope

Combo attack w/ Ayako: Lorelai first entangles an enemy in her energy ponytail and Ayako immediately grabs it & releases a blast of electricity forward to fry their target.

  • Freezing Torrent

Combo attack w/ Drum: Lorelai and Drum combine their German Blizzard & Water Baron Attack to create a freezing cold force that pushes their opponent back a great distance, then either freezes them solid or punctures right through them.

  • Triple Power Charge

One-time combo attack w/ Agnes & Drum: Lorelai, Agnes & Drum charge at their enemy with their Spin Tempest Storm, Reppu Seikensuki and Rising Torrent attacks.*Cosmic Moon Crash Group combination attack: When facing an enemy that's too strong, Lorelai and her friends will combine their powers into a ball of pure, combined energy, with Lorelai supplying a burst of her wind. It can be formed with only four others, but for the truly powerful foes, all of them will partake in creating the ball, making it even bigger than it usually is.

Relationships[]

Schtroheim Heinrich[]

Lorelai loved her father greatly, despite his rather scary appearance and some of his rather crude methods, and how often he would distance himself to continue his work on the Danube armor (though she didn't know about this yet). When he told her the real reason for her creation, she was naturally very scared at first, least of all with how her father made it seem like that was the only reason she was born, but when he died soon after, she was more than willing to sacrifice her old, peaceful life as a normal girl to protect the beautiful world her father loved.

Usagi Tsukino[]

Usagi was the first person Lorelai met when she first went out to explore the outside world. After seeing her seemingly transform and take a stand against a greater enemy is what truly inspired her to don her Danube armor and take a stand in the fight against evil. From there, the two became very good friends, helping each other again and again in the middle of battle or helping around their little "mobile home".

Drum[]

Drum was the first member of the Renegades' Droids that Lorelai really began to bond with, thanks to their shared love for the ocean and general friendly behavior. Even when the two were forced to fight each other, they'd often offset it with friendly banter like Drum complimenting her freshly polished helmet and whatnot. When Drum officially joined the team, she became the most adament about her being given a chance to prove her mettle to the team while the two continued to bond, often being seen together hanging out & talking or coming up with new ways to combine their water and ice powers.

Nyoka[]

Lorelai made friends with Nyoka quickly when the group took her in, both of them being kind souls and the "daughters" of such renowned scientists.

Dr. Rindolph[]

Rindolph is one of the few Renegade scientists that Lorelai hates with a very strong passion (well, aside from the one that killed her father, of course), despising how he sees Nyoka as a piece of property rather than his daughter.

Roscarl[]

Lorelai and Roscarl quickly became friends over their shared histories, mainly in living up to their fathers' lofty expectations for them (well, theoretically at least in Roscarl's case). Of course, Lorelai saw that Roscarl's plight over the ordeal was a lot worse than her's (mainly in the fact that her father actually seemed to genuinely love her), and so offered her much sympathy for it.

Meryl[]

Lorelai got along with Meryl quite well when they first met thanks to their shared kind natures. And while it isn't the primary use for her fans, the two often collaborate on ideas about how combine their wind-based abilities.

Emily[]

Emily made friends with Lorelai quite quickly thanks to the Tsurugi Droid's friendly nature and desire to use their powers to fight the forces of evil, though she also took a shine to how they both used power armor unlike the other members of the team.

Agnes[]

Ayako[]

While Ayako can come off as a little rough around the edges at times for Lorelai's liking, Lorelai still thinks of the electric-type Droid as a friend.

Minerva Heinrich[]

Lorelai was beyond happy to have another family member in this world, let alone a "baby sister" to mentor, even if she wasn't created by her father, helped by Minerva being all too humble to learn the ropes of fighting bad guys. Even though she can be taken aback by how she can be a little too naive & rambunctious, she's learned that that's just how younger siblings can be sometimes and is very dedicated to keeping her safe.

Kamille Bidan[]

Despite being one of the people she was created to supposedly do battle with given how strong his Mecha is, Lorelai ended up forming a good friendship with Kamille and showing him much respect as the group's "leader".

Atros[]

L.O.S.R.[]

As the men who took her father from her, Lorelai has a strong hatred for the evil organization and is just as dedicated as the rest of the team to bring them to the ground.

Lorelai Robot Body 70's Anime

Lorelai's robot body in the 70's Mazinger Z anime.

Lorelai's character model is based off of her appearance in Mazinger Editon Z: The Impact and the original Mazinger manga. However, her body has been redesigned to include ball joints and joint lines, similarly to other Droid characters in the series. This is mainly based off of a scene near the end of her spotlight episode in the original 70's Mazinger anime when she fused with her giant robot "body" (though this was most likely some type of censorship). It's even given an in-universe reason, which is to allow an easier connection between her body and armor. This idea was also applied to Minerva's character design as well.

  • She is also fully aware that she's a robot in this version of her story, whereas in all three official versions, she was (somehow) unaware of this fact.
Danube α1 Power Mode

A model sheet of Danube α1 from Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact

Lorelai is one of the characters featured in KotM that is the most physically changed from her source material. Originally her Danube armor was actually a Kikaiju (or mechanical monster) called the Danube α1 that was around the size of Mazinger Z. Her original purpose was to combine with the giant robot so as her father could give a robot the heart and soul of a human, mainly in a bid for her father to repay the original Mazinger Z's main villain, Dr. Hell, for bringing him back to life and to one-up his scientific rival Juzo Kabuto. This has been changed to giving her a simple armor attachment in a manner similar to the characters in Ronin Warriors and Saint Seiya, or (for a Western-based example) Iron Man's Mk 42 armor, with her being able to control it remotely and separate/connect to her body at will. Plus, without Hell's influence on this version of the story, it wouldn't really make any sense on how he would get enough material to create a giant robot. The armor's design itself uses the original α1's design from Mazinger Edition Z: The Impact as a basis, with changes including replacing the original design's head tentacle whip with a long pony tail - which is also partially inspired by Dr. Hell's Gamia Q android assassins (whom also acted as another basis for the design for her more robotic appearance) right down to copying their design and giving her whip-like actions/attacks based off of Akarenger's Red Bute and FiveYellow's Melody Tact and special attacks similar to Ultraman Gaia's Photon Edge - and leaving some of her "skin" showing on her arms to still show that Lorelai is still very much human at her core. The "Danube" name is also still used as both the name for her armor and her "original name", aka the "prototype" name Stroheim called her before deciding to raise her as a human.

  • On the topic of her powers, while the Danube was always able to generate winds (from a turbine that extended from behind the duplicate of Lorelai's face. It's Go Nagai, go with it), Lorelai's KotM incarnation plays into her using wind-based attacks a lot more, with the turbine that emerges from Danube's chest instead being a pair of turbines that emerge from her armor's wrists, similarly to fellow wind-powered robot Tornado Man, with some of their applications even being inspired by another android with wind powers, DC Comics' Red Tornado.
  • The bulb on the original Danube's helmet was originally supposed to be the connection point between it and its head whip. With the whip being changed into a ponytail, the bulb was changed into a way for her to fire laser beams so as to give her a ranged weapon (which also sort of takes the place of the original Danube's stomach missiles).

Lorelai's mini-arc in the first season of not letting her anger blind her is loosely based off of how quickly she turned into a vengeful killing machine out to get both Dr. Hell's minions & Mazinger Z in the original three tellings of her story, mainly because this felt more in-character for her instead of going from a simple nice girl to single-mindedly wanting to destroy the main characters. For the most part, she's meant to keep her kind nature from the main chunk of her original story, making her sort of the Heart of Usagi's group that only fights when she has to and overall just wanting to keep the peace whenever any of them try to start more "petty" fights in the ranks, even being the one that often tries to convince their enemies to join their side.
