Lime, originally Unit RSM-02L, is a character from Saber Marionette R and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 1. She's a "young" Droid created by Professor Starr of L.O.S.R., created to do his bidding and defeat his enemies. Lime in particular is equipped with an experimental Photon Core that allows her to use her Photon energy for rather explosive results. However, Lime would soon end up joining the Crystal Knights alongside her friends after she learned how "mean" her father's bosses really were.

Personality[]

For one reason or another, Lime is a very childish automaton, with "Toby" at one point equivilating her to being practically a baby. As such, she acts very naive & overzealous towards practically everything, with a very simple way of seeing the things around her, a trait not helped at all by how hyperactive she is most to the time, lacking a lot of the focus to control all of her incredible strength, speed, and endurance. She can also be very playful and careless, though this leads her into causing a lot of trouble with her higher-ups, friends and enemies alike. Heck, when she first joined the Knights, she was more often than not the first of the group to charge into a situation head-on without thinking at all about the consequences, which gets her into trouble more often than not, with the rest of her friends having to bail her out, sometimes endangering themselves in the process. Though to give her some credit, Lime will apologize for whenever she does this. This leads her mind to drift away from her mission and wander elsewhere. She is the purest and most naive of her sisters as her heart can easily be hurt. She also very much likes to fight, though her friends will sometimes scold her either for not holding back against her opponents or when she doesn't take her battles seriously, treating them instead more like games (at least in the first season). She also has a very friendly demeanor, more willing to become friends with virtually anyone she meets, even with her supposed enemies with the Crystal Knights. She can also be a rather sore loser, often throwing a tantrum when she thinks someone "cheated" during their fight.

Originally, whenever her Hyper Drive would activate, Lime would lose all sense & emotions and enter a berserker-like fighting mode that made her run on seemingly pure murderous intent, only wanting to destroy her enemies, and brutally. Lime was also unaware of this change at first; so naturally when she learned the truth, she panicked and swore to herself to never activate that circuit again (unlike forced to by external elements). Even when she joined the Knights, she was adament about trying to keep her Drive subdued. Thankfully though, through the teachings of several of her new teammates - Ayako & Lulli in particular - she learned to truly understand both how to control her power/strength and what they really mean, in addition to regaining much of her confidence.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

Professor Starr sought to create a Droid that could build up and generate immense energy to be a powerful tool of destruction. After the success of his first Droid, CH-05, he sought to develop another unit; but unlike his first Droid with its power coming from an electric dynamo, he sought to experiment with Photon Energy. However, after CH-05 proved to be too "emotional" and he discarded her to the bottom of the ocean, Starr sought to make some modifications to his newest unit to ensure it wouldn't turn as well. For starters, he programmed it to have a very simple A.I., equivilant to a very young child, so as he could manipulate it however he saw fit and so it (theoretically) couldn't develop emotions. However, the amount of power the first unit displayed in its outburst gave Starr the idea to support its generator with a control unit that could control the Droid's output. Thusly, only about a month before the events of Season 1, the modifications were complete and LM-06 was born.

Weapons & Skills[]

  • Super Strength
  • Enhanced Speed
  • Enhanced Endurance

Despite her small stature, Lime is surprisingly durable, frequently getting beaten up while taking barely any damage and will keep fighting until she wins.

To help control her Photon Power output, Lime was given a pair of specially-made gloves, which have a special metal Photon energy condensor at the knuckles that allow her to generate bursts of Photon Energy.

Hyper Drive[]

Whenever she gets pushed too far, Lime is able to activate her Hyper Drive, an experimental overdrive mechanism that increases her speed and strength ten-fold, indicated by her eyes glowing a bright yellow. She can also channel a large amount of her power into one of her fists or feet, indicated by them also glowing a bright yellow, to deliver powerful blows. Nearly nothing can withstand her raw power in this form, but it is limited in use, completely draining Lime’s energy reserves after several minutes.

Berserker Phase[]

Originally, the main purpose behind the Hyper Drive was to release an enormous surge of power that would increase Lime's power & Photon output but subsequently override all of her other systems. This would cause her to enter a berserk "mode", where she loses all emotions except for her fighting instincts and would attack anyone that got in her way friend or foe, complete with a slasher-like smile on her face. With zero inhibitions and limiters both physically or mentally, she would be the perfect tool for destruction.

As Lime learns to gain more control over her Hyper Drive, she's able to channel her Photon power into several new attacks & super moves:

  • Photon Beams

Lime is able to fire Photon Beams from her fists, usually firing them from her punches.

  • Burning Punch

Taking the name from Godannar's finishing move because she thought it sounded cool, Lime unleashes a large, powerful beam of Photon energy from her fist. It's powerful enough to shatter large boulders, and even destroy smaller mechs/vehicles like simple aircraft.

  • Photon Crusher

Lime strikes the ground with her Photon-charged fist, triggering a wave of energy that surges through the forward area in front of her until it strikes her enemy, either sending them back or destroying them outright.

  • Zero-Range Photon Crusher

After using the Photon Crusher, Lime charges up either one of or both her fists with Photon energy and directly strikes her enemy at close range. This move is powerful enough to overpower other enemy energy attacks, but it puts a lot of strain on Lime's frame.

  • Photon Explosion

After gathering enough Photon energy into her knuckles, Lime raises her arms into the air and then slams her fists together. This triggers her conductors to release an enormous explosion of golden Photon energy, capable of destroying practically everything around the young Droid.

Combo Attacks[]

  • Cosmic Moon Crash

Group combination attack: When facing an enemy that's too strong, Lime and her friends will combine their powers into a ball of pure, combined energy, with Lime supplying a blast of Photon Energy from her Gauntlets. It can be formed with only four others, but for the truly powerful foes, all of them will partake in creating the ball, making it even bigger than it usually is.

Relationships[]

Professor Starr[]

Unlike most of her Droid compatriots that followed their creators out of loyalty, Lime followed her father's orders simply because... well, he's her Daddy. She's supposed to do what he says. Or, at least that's how she figures.

Cherry[]

Ayako[]

When she first saw the power she held, Lime took a strong interest in the last of the Dark Sisters. After she saw how strong Ayako was during one of the Knights' battles, she wanted more than anything to fight her and see who was stronger (though to be fair, she does respectfully ask to fight her instead of just starting a fight outright). However, she failed to understand why someone as strong as her doesn't like to fight unneccessary battles, leading to her struggling to understand her own feelings about why she likes to fight as much as she does.

When Lime officially joined the team, the two would take on a psuedo teacher-student relationship and Ayako really became the guiding-figure that she really needed, with the thunder-powered Droid teaching her new ways to control the flow of energy in her body and helping her better to understand when and when not to fight/use that power.

Notes[]

While her design is taken from the "R" OVA, Lime's character in this series is mainly meant to be a sort of crossroads between that and her counterpart in the main "J" series. However, it also takes influence from several other sources to make this interpretation a little more unique. Her arc in the first season in particular has a sort of Pinocchio-type edge to it, with her being born so recently resulting in a great sense of naivety about the world, but after several major incidents she understands the consequences of her actions/behavior and grows from them (just with the twist of her sometimes unconsciously turning into a literal killing machine). She's even meant to have an episode where she deals with a character that's akin to a dark twist on Jiminy Cricket that influences her to do bad things. Her childish behavior also has her sometimes becoming the comic relief for the team, or at the very least just does "silly" things that breaks up the more monotinous moments. However, she also takes elements from characters like the Casshern Sins character Sophita, with her enjoying fighting for fun (though she has a more child-like view on the matter unlike Sophita, who fought out of a baseline drive to kill) but has to understand which forms of fighting are okay, like in the form of friendly competition, and which types are not, which is when an individual is forced to fight and does it to harm others, especially the innocent. This also acts as a way for the series to explore these themes with the rest of the cast, like them bringing up how many renowned heroes were also fighters.

Like a few other robot characters in this series, Lime and subsequently Cherry's names have been made into nicknames that just stuck, a concept mainly spawning from the idea of questioning why someone as evil and uncaring as Starr would give his creations such cute fruit-based names. Thus came the idea for them to have "official designations" at first, which are taken from their Development Codes in the J series, just with an "R" replacing the "J" to keep with their appearances here being based off of the R anime, and the "1" and "2" at the ends being swapped since, obviously, obviously, Lime was "born" second.

Lime & Ayako's connection is mainly built off of their paralles as being of being the "runts of the litter" in their home series (so much so that its possible the Dark Sisters were "inspired" by the Sabers themselves). It also draws some parallels to Bloodberry from the main SM media, what with being the designated "thick-headed, hotblooded fighter" of the group but still shows that she greatly cares about her friends like in the main J series and how she trains her like BB's R incarnation. Heck, her main outfit is even a kimono-like Japanese tradition outfit like Cherry's design in the J series.

There are several elements to Lime's characterization and certain scenes in this series that are meant to pay subtextually homage to her J counterpart:

  • While not focused on too heavily (especially compared to her dynamic with Ayako), Lime has a friendship with Lorelai that acts as a nod to the "J" character of the same name, the woman who came up with the concept of the Maiden Circuit.
  • In "Of Wind and Blood", Lime is one of the characters that seems the most fond of the episode's Feudal Japan-based setting as a nod to the similar setting of "J".

In her home series, Lime didn't have any real abilities outside of her fighting skills. So, her KotM incarnation takes her "Maiden Circuit" - a device which both empowered her & the other androids of her universe with emotions and, in Lime's case in "R", increase her strength to great lengths - and turns it into a system specially designed for her to increase her strength and give her light/energy-based attacks. But to make her move set a little more interesting, going off of her color scheme & displays of strength and makes her powers based around light/energy and earth. Many of the ways she uses these powers are inspired by other attacks of the kind from other anime/cartoon characters. While the way she uses the earth around her is mainly based off of G Gundam's Bolt Gundam, the most apparent of these new powers of hers is her "Photon Explosion", which is based directly off of Zeorymer of Hades Project Zeorymer's Meioh (or Hades) attack as a way to show just how powerful she can really be (though Lime's version of the attack is a lot weaker, as Zeorymer's attack was strong enough to be seen from space, meaning its power would be comparable to about several gigatons of force).

  • Somewhat related, like several other characters in this series that have parts of their design reworked to serve a purpose, Lime's gloves have been made into energy conducers that act as a way for her to unleash her powerful Photon beam attacs, which in of itself is a spin on several scenes from the original R anime where she would release huge bursts of energy. This is mainly inspired by Denshi Sentai Denziman's metal Denzi Punch gloves since Lime is one of the foremost characters in the main cast that fights hand-to-hand the most, complete with her sometimes clashing her knuckles together like the Denzimen.
