Kamiile Bidan is a character from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam and is the secondary central protagonist of The Knights of the Multiverse. The pilot of the Gundam Mk-II and the Zeta Gundam, after the Gryps War, he was thrown across the Multiverse, where he would meet several other lost souls & go onto help form the Crystal Knights to combat other evils throughout the Multiverse, acting as one of the group's main leaders, often being the one that comes up with strategies and leads the charge.

Personality[]

War has changed Kamille, and surprisingly, it might have been (mostly) for the better. The Gryps Conflict molded the young man from an emotionally vulnerable, angst-ridden teenager to a true soldier with a good head on his shoulders and a kind heart that wants the best for all of humanity. Sure enought, these feelings soon grew into generally all living creatures organic or not, whether they be from his world or not. After joining with the Knights, Kamille has taken a position similar to his mentor Lieutenant Quattro before him, with him acting as a mentor towards many of his younger comrades, often consoling them about the problems they're facing (both physically and mentally) & helping them to grow/overcome them. Granted it did take him a while to rap his head around the idea of robots displaying human emotions - let alone most of them looking almost perfectly like humans - but he was able to adjust the idea rather quickly. What's more, after losing almost all of his teammates during the final battle of Gryps, he's vowed to make sure he doesn't lose any more friends when he has the power to do something to help. Not again. This also sprouted another passion for him during the team's war across the Multiverse against Axis Zeon and their use of Cyber-Newtypes, with Kamille wanting to help them the way he couldn't Four and Sarah during the war.

That said, he isn't exactly perfect at this. His temper does sometimes still get the better of him, causing him to sometimes snap back at them when they say something that he violently disagrees with or makes a remark that hits a little too close to home, and he's still plenty loud spoken and brimming with attitude. However, with his newfound spot among the group, for probably the first time in his life, he finally feels happy. Sure, he still has to deal with the odd tyrant trying to conquer the world or maniac wanting to hurt people for some sick sport, but now he has people who help him patch up the Zeta, watch his back in fights and enjoy chilling out with him with a movie and eating some pizza. Heck, he's even started to throw out the odd sarcastic comment or joke every now and again.

He still hates it when someone says he has a girl's name, though.

In season 2, Kamille took on a much more serious behavior when the group began their crusade against Neo Zeon. Just the thought of their forces having grown so much and Haman spreading her twisted ideals to the rest of the Multiverse caused something inside the young pilot to snap, making him nearly as aggressive as he was when he first joined the AEUG. He got much more brutal against his opponents, and would sometimes even let some of his anger out on his teammates, even when they made the tiniest slip-up. Although, this also partially came about due to him showing remorse about essentially taking the Knights into war, with most of them being made to resemble children and most technically only being a year or two old. Thankfully thought, his new team reminded him that they volunteered willingly to fight this threat, and that the best he could do for his lost friends was to move on and carry their wills in their honor.

Skills & Equipment[]

  • Hand-to-Hand Combat
  • Mechanical Skills

A skill he inherited from his parents (both were Federation officers and among the main engineering team that designed the Gundam Mk-II), Kamille developed a hobby in amateur mobile suit creation in high school, best shown by how he was one of the chief designers for the Zeta.

  • Piloting Skills
  • Newtype Abilities

Like a select few in the Universal Century, Kamille is considered a Newtype, a new state of human evolution to help them adapt to life in space. This gives him access to several otherwise supernatural abilities, such as precognition, faster reflexes, heightened mental awareness, and even telepathy.

Relationships[]

Fa Yuiry[]

Cham Fau[]

Sunset Shimmer[]

Kamille and Sunset often take the role of "babysitters" (as they put it) for the younger members of the team, and as such, the two get along very well, establishing a solid brother/sister-type dynamic. In battle, the two will often bounce strategies off of each other and the others to see what sticks, with Kamille often providing support from his Gundams while Sunset leads the team on the ground. At "home", the two often find themselves double-heading tasks like making sure everything is running right & nobody breaks anything, breaking up childish bickering, or simply trying to calm everyone down and get them into bed (it's a lot harder than it sounds). She was even the first member of the team he was willing to tell about his life from even before he joined the A.E.U.G..

Usagi Tsukino[]

Despite their age difference, Kamille and Usagi are very close friends, almost to the point of thinking of each other as brother and sister.

Starscream[]

At first, Kamille held Starscream in contempt after their duel, not believing him saying that he didn't remember, only holding off after hearing the others' testiments. However, after the team's first fight with Megatron, he finally came to an understanding of Starscream's situation, and put his differences with him aside to defeat the Black Moon Clan and Unicron. From then on, the two became good allies, often sharing both friendly and competitive dialogue in battles.

Elpeo Puru[]

While he was hesitant towards her at first with her calling him "big brother", Kamille warmed up to Puru soon enough and found himself helping her hone her piloting skills, mostly out of wanting to make up for not saving Four.

Puru Two[]

Kamille soon became as determined as anyone to bring Puru Two to their side, mostly for Puru's sake.

Shinn Asuka[]

Practically from the jump of the Knights' clashes with Neo Zeon, Kamille and Shinn develop a very complex relationship. As the two clash, Kamille takes note that the Zeon pilot is an incredibly gifted pilot, and that he has a lot of raw passion. He picks up quickly that his passion is to ensure that he doesn't lose anyone he loves thankfully, but the path towards that end goal is a bit shaky by how much he also desires power to destroy evil (or whatever Zeon has convinced him is evil, in some cases). He also felt for Shinn's situation greatly once he told him about his past, knowing well the feeling of his family being taken away by the Titans, and especially the kind of anger that can leave in one's soul; although Kamille will admit that his anger might be a little stronger than his, considering how close he seemed with his parents and sister compared to how distant he became towards his own mother & father when they died. So, all throughout their battles, Kamille hoped to both try and teach Shinn that power without purpose can only turn him into a monster and to try and convince him that a heart like his is being manipulated by Zeon.

Pink Diamond[]

Catra[]

In the beginning of the team's formation, Kamille and Catra had a very rocky relationship, to put it lightly. Her immature, devil-may-care nature often clashes with the battle-hardened pilot's more strait-laced attitude cause to the two to end up fighting, usually in a really immature manner. However, as the two continue to fight evil together and shared more and more stories of their pasts, helping both gain a much better understanding of each other, the more he became affectionate towards her, as she often presented her courage, skill, nobility, and respect for both her and the rest of the team more often. Later on, the fighting boils down to simple teasing and the two become heartfelt friends, developing something of a sibling-like bond.

Usagi's "Squad"[]

Although he doesn't interact with the two very often, it's clear that Kamille cares about Usagi's "team" as he and the others call them as much as he does the rest of the team's younger members. He was a little hesitant on working with them at first as they didn't have androids in his world, let alone fully sentient ones, but when he saw how strong and dedicated they were to fighting evil & protecting her - combined with their generally kind/friendly attitudes - he managed to set aside his doubt, and is proud to call them all valuable teammates, especially with how much they help Usagi.

Ayako[]

Like most of the other founding members of the team, Kamille was very distrusting & suspicious of Ayako's motives. However, convinced by Usagi wanting to help her like he and the others did her during their battles with Unicron's minions, he was willing to give her a chance. When he learned how uncaring her creator was towards the well-being of all three Dark sisters, he allowed the young Droid to join the team.

Dr. Empra[]

As she was the first Renegade scientist the group encountered, Empra was Kamille's first taste of how cruel the organization's members were both towards normal people and their own creations. As thus, she was at the full brunt of Kamille's wrath for treating another living being like trash.

Roscarl[]

Kamille originally thought that Roscarl was a simple robot meant to act and behave like a child, nowhere near ready for the battles that the others faced. But that all changed when she convinced him to bring her along to save Usagi and Nyoka when they were captured during the team's first scuffle with the Renegades. The look on her face told him that she knew the danger ahead of her, and that she was more than willing to do so if it meant saving her big sister. From then on, Kamille showed the young Droid a great deal of respect and from then on, allowed her to go on missions just the same as anyone else on the team should she choose to volunteer.

Mohm[]

Atros[]

Fellow Pilots[]

Like Lieutenant Quattro before him, Kamille helps to train some of the new pilots on the team. But, given how... unique his new trainees are, he's had to take very different directions with training them.

Asuka Langley Soryu[]

Cynthia[]

Keiko Kamikita[]

Ruri Saotome[]

Koji Kabuto & Ryoma Nagare[]

While Kamille felt uneasy towards Koji and Ryoma when the three first met (what with how much they seemed to enjoy piloting their mobile suits and fighting), as they've gotten closer, he's come to think of them as his wingmen, always having his back in battles, helping him train, and even giving him a few tips on how to "improve" his relationship with Fa (well, Koji at least). He also took solace in knowing that, like him, they were once normal kids before becoming pilots to fight the good fight.

L.O.S.R.[]

Kamille despises the Renegades to the core. While he is fully aware that, like the Titans, there are good people within the organization, when it comes to the upper management, he absolutely hates them for how they want to kill innocent people and cause mindless destruction just because they can.

Axis Zeon[]

Puru Clones[]

Glemy Toto[]

Haman Karn[]

Secret Society[]

Kamille has rather mixed feelings on the Society. Now obviously, he does hate what the society stands for, the atrocities they've caused, and will fight tooth and nail to put down the psychopaths and terrorists that work alongside them, but he just can't understand why people with such extraordinary abilities can commit such horrible acts.

Grodd[]

As another madman (or ape in this case) out to conquer all they see because they can, Kamille despises the former leader of the Secret Society, least of all for trying to turn everyone in the Multiverse into apes.

Notes[]

Kamille being the leader (or at least the most active leading figure) of the Crystal Knights, let along being the main Gundam representative in this series, is mainly down to how he's the most experienced out of everyone in fighting in large scale battles and , with his more defiant personality to what others expect him to be and fights on his own terms reflecting well on how a majority of the main cast in this series are characters with less than ideal backgrounds that mostly follow their own rules. Plus, his arc in the original series of wanting to stop "adults" from manipulating others - especially children - for their insipid ideals (that mainly center around taking control of everything for themselves) translates well into the main message of the series.

Kamille's arc in the series is inspired in a major way by many of the characters from (the criminally underrated) After War Gundam X, where even though he lost so much at Gryps, he's still alive and at least has a few pieces of his "old life" with him in this new one, so a majority of his screen time is dedicated to show him dealing with the aftermath of the war, how he copes with all that he's seen/done and how he builds himself back up with help from the newfound family he's found amongst the team. And while he does (or at least tries to) move on, the effects of the war continue to linger in his mind, hence his dedication to making sure he doesn't just sit on the sidelines while his new teammates could die, like what happened at the end of the original Zeta.

Kamille's part on the team is a rather funny one, as rather than there being a single girl on an all-male team like most shows, Kamille is the Knights' only male member on a team full of girls (apart from Starscream and Tobikage, obviously, but even Tobi gets that treatment with his own team), in a role similar to that of Sailor Moon's Tuxedo Mask.

As a fun character tick, Kamille and every other character from the Universal Century universe refers to any giant robot they come across - whether they hail from a Gundam series or not - as Mobile Suits. Some of the other characters correct them in the beginning, but they soon choose to accept it.
