Freru is a character from Astro Boy (1963) and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 1. She's a very unique Droid created by Dr. Leaf, made to be the perfect fusion of plant-life and robotics, with her being able to house all types of pollens, seeds and other types of botanical elements in her body and use them however she wishes. After some "family drama" involving her "older sister" Zaboa, she was taken in by the Crystal Knights, where Sunset Shimmer became her primary caretaker and helped them combat the forces of evil.
Personality[]
Freru has a persona very similar to the plants she was based off of; due to her sheltered early life, she's very meek & sensitive to almost anything, and very frightful about encountering new things. She loves flowers and virtually all forms of plant life very much and is often concerned about the damage that the team's battles do to it, as she'll even shed a tear over a single broken one. As she was in no way designed for combat, she took the longest out of all the team to get use to the Knights' constant battles against the forces of evil, getting frightened very easily to the point that she'd freeze up when faced with death practically coming right at her. Furthermore, however just the cause for which it was fought, the gruesome and destructive aftermath of any battle in an area rich in botanical life would often leave a sour taste in her mouth. In fact, whenever the internal struggle would get too heavy for her, she'd even run off into the wilderness to clear her brain module. Thankfully though (for both her and the team's sakes), she bulked up a lot of courage thanks to the training Pink provided her, and she's managed to find a way to use her powers in both combative and non-combative purposes. Even if her anti-war sentiments gain her little respect from the more martial of the Knights, yet he is agile and skilled in a fight, and her courage whenever she has a set goal and or is dedicated to stopping an evil force is beyond all reproach.

Abilities & Equipment[]
- Enhanced Strength & Agility
- Flower Pedal Blasts
Freru is able to blast a barrage of flower pedals from her gauntlets. These are usually just for show, but in combat, she's able to use them to blow away the group's enemies, or she can release a flurry of razor-sharp pedals to strike them.
- Pollen Blast
Freru is able to release a small burst of pollen and apply to a small patch of flowers. In combat situations, she's able to use this to knock out enemies.
- Pedal Whirlwind
Freru spins and creates a large, beautiful whirlwind of pedals and pollen that fly all around her person. In casual situations this is simply an effect that occurs whenever she dances, but in combat, she can use this to paralyze or disorientate enemies.
- Rose Hurricane
Inspired mainly by Lorelai's German Blizzard attack and her first truly offensive attack, Freru releases a flurry of rose pedals and pollen that encircles and spins around an enemy in a cyclone pattern, creating a vortex of energy that traps and immobilizes them. Sometimes she'll use this attack in a combo move with Sunset, where Freru will use the Rose Hurricane to send an enemy flying into the air as her guardian uses one of her finishing moves.
Relationships[]
Dr. Leaf[]
Freru loves her father very much.
Zaboa[]
Though one is robotic while the other is organic, Freru cares about Zaboa very much and views her as a "sister", even if she was slightly disturbed by her carnivorous behavior. Even when she did go crazy and the Knights had to destroy her, she was still saddened that she had to be put down.
Sunset Shimmer[]
After her father passed, Sunset became Freru's main caretaker when the Knights took her in. While she was naturally put off by her being some kind of magical creature - let alone from another dimension that took the form of a human - she warmed up to her rather quickly when the ex-magical student offered to show her the rest of the world, even more when she started to believe that their strange circumstances made them some of the more unique "flowers" of the team, or so Sunset puts it. From there, she would constantly act as a support unit for Freru, always there to offer a shoulder to lean on whenever she feels conflicted about her new life and give her some advice (even if she isn't all that great at it at times).
Lorelai Heinrich[]
Freru found a companion in Lorelai, with the plant Droid finding a friend that understood how she felt in losing her creator.

Notes[]
Freru is unique among the Astro Boy characters featured in KotM and the Droids featured in this series at all in that she actually wasn't a robot in the original series. No, instead, she was a genetically mutated plant that took on a humanoid form thanks to her creator tampering with genetic mutation. She even needed to be placed in what seemed to be an incubator-like capsule every so often to keep her alive, indicated by her dying at the end of her original episode most likely due to a combination of not returning to her capsule in time and being trapped underground with no sunlight (photosynthesis and all that). Here, along with obviously surviving that fate like the rest of the Droids in the main cast, she's been turned into a robot with plant-like features and powers, in a case similarly to Mega Man's Plant Man, and given a role on the team similar to Beachcomber in Transformers. Her use of plant powers is actually a KotM exclusive too, as she displayed no such abilities in her home series, and were given to her (obviously) to go along with her theming.
As the '63 anime wasn't animated in color, like many other characters from that series, Freru's color palette is completely original for KotM. However, her case is a bit more extreme than the others as her design in the anime was very simplistic (even by the show's standards), with her only real feature being the leaves around her neck. The rest of her body was simply bare. For the colors, her face & body were given different colors so as to better separate the two points, making it look like she's wearing a bodysuit. Her hair is also made up of two colors that would pop against the rest of her body, based somewhat off of flowers that have pedals with multiple colors. In addition to the light green of her main body - which helps give off the feeling of a flower stem, she's been given a set of leaf-like gauntlets and boots which have been taken directly from the Sailor Moon monster of the week Suzuran to spice up her design a little more, as well as the fact that she actually didn't have any feet in her original design (which was probably just a way to make her seem more plant-like, like they were roots or something). All of this is meant to tie back to how unique and different she is from the other Droids in the series,
