The Orguss is the titular robot of Super Dimension Century Orguss and is a mech introduced in Knights of the Multiverse Season 1. It was created in a joint experiment between the EDC and New Photon/Saotome Labs to combine their M.Lover units with the Methuss's transformation abilities. It was handed over to the Crystal Knights for their personal use, where it was meant to be piloted by the Methuss's original pilot Fa Yuiry but was turned over to Mohm Kabuto after the young Droid showed great conviction to step up & help her new friends on the front lines.

Its plans would be further developed by the EDC into creating the Orguss IIs.

Transformations & Armaments[]

Transformations[]

Fighter Mode[]

A jet fighter-like alternate mode, it's capable of flying 100kph (kilometers per hour).

Gerwalk Mode[]

A sort of halfway point between the Fighter and Robot Mode. The robot mode's legs will automatically deploy when Orguss tries to stop in mid-air to help it decelerate, though it can also be used to fire the leg missiles or allow the Mecha to pull quick break-checks to get away from oncoming enemies quicker. This mode also assists greatly with launching and landing.

Robot Mode[]

Stands at 8.7 meters,

  • Super Strength

For such a small Mecha, Orguss is surprisingly very strong, able to pierce through most armors in a single punch (or at the very least, deal heavy damage to it).

  • Missiles

The Orguss has two sets of missile launchers built into its legs, each silo holding five missiles each. It's also able fire them while in Gerwalk Mode.

  • Grenade Launchers

A carry-over from the M.Lover's, Orguss is armed with a pair of grenade launchers on each wrist.

  • Beam Rifle

The Orguss is armed with a Photon Beam rifle on its right arm, which is attached to a shield. The shield will move onto the mech's right leg, where it can also be used.

At one point, Mohm modified the beam's output so it could fire at longer ranges and maintain a continuous blast in order to more directly pierce or cut through an object or enemy unit.

Upgrades[]

In Season 2, the Orguss was given a couple upgrades:

  • Second Shield

The Orguss has a second, hand-held shield for better defense.

  • Booster Pack

The Orguss has a large experimental booster pack attached to its back to give a huge boost in speed.

Special Moves[]

  • "Rocket Punch"

A one-time move; after Orguss's left arm was torn off in battle, Mohm subsequently picked it up and threw at the enemy Mecha, temporarily knocking them off-balance enough for the rest of the Knights to take it down.

  • Giant Swing Chogokin Punch

Inspired by her father's Giant Swing Rocket Punch (mainly because Mohm couldn't fire her Mecha's arms like her Papa could), Orguss spins one of its arms rapidly to build up momentum before rocketing forward and delivering a powerful uppercut to its desired target, often sending them flying backwards or just leave a huge puncture "wound".

  • Photon Flare

Inspired by the Zeta Gundam's use of the Bio-Sensor and created out of a desire to have a special move similar to the ones used by the other mechs on the team, Mohm connects her own Photon Power Core to the Orguss's systems to overflow the mech's own core with Photon energy, resulting in the mech glowing gold. It then charges forward at rapid speed, focusing much of the energy into its fist, and literally punches right through its target. However, this comes at the cost of much of Mohm's energy, the first time she did this even draining her completely. She begins to not lose as much energy overtime as both her and the Orguss's systems become adjusted to the power flux, but it's still an ever-present danger to her.

Combo Attacks[]

  • Triple Photon Attack

Combo attack w/ Lilulu & Nyoka: All three Kabuto sisters fire a volley of Photon Beam blasts at an enemy, ending the attack with a final full-powered blast from the trio.

History[]

Animated Shorts[]

Season 1[]

After the Methuss was all but destroyed after the team's battles with the Heralds of Unicron, it and the Zeta Gundam were turned over to the New Photon/Saotome Labs to see if they could repair or make use of their designs. From there, its design & blueprints would be used in an experiment to combine its transforming capabilities with their M.Lovers.

Notes[]

The idea of making Mohm the Orguss's pilot in this series is mainly to give her a bit more agency & influence in the story, as well as give her a little character arc about gaining more confidence in herself, rather than just sit around and cook & clean like she did in the original Orguss anime. In a similar vein, it being based off of the Methuss is (obviously) a KotM-original plot point, come up with due to the two's semi-similar designs and transformation patterns.

Ep27-orgussvalkyrie

The "Orguss Valkyrie" in episode 27 of the original Macross.

Orguss's Super Form is based off of the "Orguss Valkyrie", an in-joke created by the animators at Studio Nue during the 27th episode of Super Dimension Fortress Macross (or Robotech), as a merging of a VF-1A Valkyrie and the Orguss.

The Orguss's main gun actually operated like a missile launcher, but was changed out for a normal beam rifle. That, and sometimes it was even drawn to look like a beam rifle anyway.

The Photon Flare is a KotM-original attack based off of the "Gekigan Flare" from Martian Successor Nadesico, given to Orguss so, for the same reason that Mohm made up the move in-universe, it could have its own super move like the rest of the more super-powered mechs on the team.

Orguss's one-time use of a Rocket Punch attack is a nod to Dai-Guard's use of the move, and is obviously included as a nod to one of her father's famous techniques.
