Elpeo Puru is a character from Mobile Suit Gundam ZZ and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 2. The pilot of the Bertigo and the Re-GZ, she's a Newtype who first appears fighting for Axis Zeon, but eventually sides with the Crystal Knights after making close bonds with several of them, particularly her "big brother" Kamille Bidan. However, she soon finds herself in her own personal conflict in the war as many of Zeon's pilots turn out to be artificially made clones of herself.

Personality[]

Puru has an energetic and cheerful demeanor that delights in things that make her feel good, like ice cream or piloting a mobile suit, and often acts quite troublesome and mischievous, making her come off as a nuisance more often than not by the rest of the team when she first joined. She was also pretty quick to pull the trigger (literally, in some cases). She also sometimes shows a temperamental side, becoming very emotional and envious whenever she feels someone's picking on her/messing with her stuff, having a strong possessive nature of Kamille in particular. However, she can be very serious when she needs to be, especially when it comes to play defense, as she is truly devoted to the people who love her. This really comes down to a strong desire for connections, brought about by her lack of knowledge about her origins.

As she continues to aid the Knights in the war against Axis Zeon, this temper settles down and she does start to become more and more mature. She starts to truly see the horrors that war can bring and understands the meaning of helping others during such strife from the others' influence. This is most prominent in how she views her clones/sisters, being dedicated to saving all of them, and just as easily being unnerved whenever they're forced to kill one of them.

Skills & Equipment[]

Puru shows powerful Newtype abilities that allow her to feel the presence of other Newtypes with amazing accuracy and quickness. She is able to strongly attune to Kamille and Puru Two. Her Newtype abilities are also further evidenced by the simple fact of her ability to pilot a machine that uses funnels.

Relaitionships[]

Kamille Bidan[]

Puru sees Kamille as an older brother, and is always begging him to play with her. As an only child (or so she thought), she felt very lonely with no parents or siblings, with the closest things she had formerly were Glemy and Haman (and even then, they weren't the best role models either), and simply wants to be happy with him in the form of a family. As such, she gets very protective of him, especially when around other women.

Mohm[]

At first, Puru and Mohm were very antagonistic towards each other, both pining for Kamille's total attention, with Puru even pulling the "you don't count because you're a robot" card at one point. Thankfully though, the two managed to put their petty feud behind, especially after Kamille chastised them both for their ridiculous behavior, and eventually managed to develop a sisterly bond.

Usagi Tsukino[]

Though not to the same extent she felt towards Mohm, Puru sometimes got envious of Usagi with how often she and Kamille were together.

Puru Two[]

As the first of her clones, and thereby the one she's spent the most time with, Puru is closest to Two out of all her sisters.

Notes[]

In the original ZZ Gundam, much of Puru's backstory is left in mystery, both for her and her clones. So, KotM seeks to try and answer those questions in Season 2; an element that applies to her clones as well. Aside from that, several elements from Puru's storyline in the original series has been changed:

  • To tie Puru's story into the idea of the Zeta Gundam: New Translation timeline, her relationship with Judau Ashta (ZZ's main character) is transferred to Kamille. Though rather than it being Puru having a crush on the MC and getting jealous whenever he got involved with other females like with Judau (which is just not one of this author's favorite), here it takes a cue from the other sisterhoods found in the Knights and is supposed to play more into giving the two more of an actual sibling-type bond, where she genuinely wants famililal connection (which also kind of works with how much more focus there is on the rest of her clones). It's also takes elements Rosamia Badam's second story arc in the second half of the original Zeta Gundam series (that were cut from the New Translation movies), though without the added factor of "reprogramming" her brain.
  • Not so much a change to her character but moreso a change in her story arc, but in KotM, she's introduced right at the beginning of the season, whereas in ZZ she was introduced halfway through the show's run, at episode 16 (which really only made her and her clones' storyline feel very cramped in ZZ's 47-episode run).

Her taking command of the Re-GZ is to represent her bond with Kamille, with both being "Gundams" able to transform into jet fighter-like forms. This is also helped by the Re-GZ was based off of the Zeta, thereby making it sort of like a "younger brother" to the Zeta.
