This episode is essentially meant to be an "excuse" to have all of the Knights in Usagi's "inner circle" that's been built up over the past thirteen episodes fight against an enemy by themselves, mainly as a showcase of how tightly-knit their corner of the team has become even in such a short amount of time. Though this episode does try to go the extra mile by showing why the rest of the Knights can't help them out as they're having a battle of their own, which both shows another example of how in-sync Catra, Sunset & Pink are and a bit of character development for Asuka.
