The AMX-RX-042 Destiny Gundam is the titular robot of Mobile Suit Gundam SEED Destiny and is a mobile suit featured in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 2. It was created by Axis Zeon and is piloted by Shinn Asuka.

Armaments[edit | edit source]
- Head Vulcans
The Destiny has the standard Gundam armament of a pair of Vulcan cannons mounted in its head.
- High-Energy Beam Rifle
While the Destiny's beam rifle looks like an average beam rifle, it has superior firepower and rate of fire.
- Beam Boomerangs
The Destiny has two beam boomerangs stored on its shoulders. They are upgraded forms of the ones used by the Sword Impulse Gundam, and utilize a simplified version of the Funnel system. The Destiny's beam boomerangs have the unique ability to double as beam sabers by lengthening their beam blades. Shinn usually uses these weapons in a variety of ways, such as using them to distract opponents while he closes in for a close-range attack, or to destroy several enemy units in its trajectory.
- Beam Sword
Stored on the right side of the backpack, the foldable beam sword is powerful enough to slice something as big/strong as a Destroy Gundam in two. Despite its name, the weapon is actually a combination of a physical blade and a laser beam blade.
- Beam Cannon
Stored on the left side of the backpack, it is Destiny's most powerful long-range weapon and can destroy a MS or a battleship with a single shot. Based off of the Blast Impulse Gundam's beam cannons, it has a higher firing rate, output, and firing range. When in use, the cannon unfolds and swivels underneath the Destiny's shoulder while a trigger and guard extend to allow the Destiny to take manual aim.
- Palm Beam Cannon
A unique feature of the Destiny is its two palm beam cannons. Meant for use in close combat at zero range, the beam cannon fires a powerful bluish beam that can destroy most mech suits in a single shot. It can also draw power from the suit's reactor to deliver an even more powerful punch or burst of energy.
Notes[edit | edit source]
Like many of Zeon's Gundams, the Destiny's official designation is changed, though it does stick closer to it than most of the others, with the "42" coming its original designation of "ZGMF-X42S".
The Palm Beam Cannon is a lot more powerful than in the original SEED Destiny (like actually being able to hold back beam sabers, for one), generally acting more like the "weapons" that inspired its conception, Shining and Burning Gundams Shining/Burning Fingers from G Gundam.
Like many other characters & plot elements in the series, much more emphasis is put on the Destiny Gundam's name and why it has the Palm Cannon in KotM, with it being made explicit that it's name and Cannon are meant to exemplify how Axis Zeon, or really Shinn, is taking destiny into their own hands and forging their own path.
