Baldios is the titular robot of Space Warrior Baldios and is a Super Robot featured in The Knights of the Multiverse, introduced in Season 1. It's a Super Robot that was created by the evil organization L.O.S.R. to be controlled by the Droid Cynthia, which would follow "his" sister to join the Crystal Knights to battle against the forces of evil, both on "his" Earth and beyond.

Personality[]

Despite only having limited A.I., Baldios is still able to show some degree of emotions. He's shown to genuinely care for Cynthia as a sister and enjoys her company, as well as worry for her safety. Whenever he recieves the emergency signal that Cynthia is in danger, he will immediately take off and rush out to save her, even if it means tearing through the team to do so. When activated and not in battle, he's very much a gentle giant that enjoys watching the scenery around him.

Abilities & Equipment[]

  • Control System

Baldios is commanded Cynthia via the Black Box circuit built into the young girl's brain module that connects directly to its own electronic brain. It will only respond to Cynthia's voice, which includes activating the robot and triggering the activation of its weapons systems. However, it also has an auto-guard circuit that allows it to launch by itself if Cynthia is far away and in danger.

  • Flight Pack

Baldios has a large jetpack built onto its back that allows it to fly great distances.

  • BaldiMissiles

Two missile launchers attached to its legs.

  • BaldiBeam

A Photon Beam that fires from the diamond on Baldios's forehead.

  • PulSaber

A power sword that Baldios pulls out from underneath the panel on its chest. The main blade is actually a yellow, extendable metal of an unknown type, that allows it to extend to great lengths. Baldios usually uses this to send its enemies slamming into nearby cliffsides.

  • PulSaber Photon Crash
Baldios energizes its PulSaber with Photon Energy from its forehead jewel, then performs a diagonal slash attack. It can also energize its sword to use it against energy Beam Sabers.
  • Shoulder Cannons

Baldios has large Photon-powered energy cannons stored in each of its shoulders.

  • Thunder Flash

Baldios directs a large amount of electromagnetic energy into the symbol on its chest. Then, it releases an enormous burst of thunder-like energy to decimate its enemy, similarly to Mazinger Z's Breast Fire.

Notes[]

The way this version of Baldios operates is very different from its home series. Firstly, its one of several Renegade Super Robots that was originally a combiner (with a main jet forming its arms & torso and two seperate ships converting into its legs) but now acts a single robot. Secondly (and the more important change), rather than be controlled by the usual cockpit inside its head/body, Baldios is operated in the same way as most "early stage" mecha like the titular robots of Tetsujin 28, Giant Robo and Daitetsujin 17, where the pilot was both a young child and operated their robots from the outside via a remote control and voice commands, though it especially takes influence from 17 in Baldios is meant to be autonomous and will perform most actions of its own free will. This also allows him and Cynthia to develop a true Hogarth & Iron Giant-type relationship now taken to a sibling-like approach much like a lot of members on the team, punctated by the technicality that "he" and Cynthia were designed/created by the same man, so by robot standards they are siblings. Although as a nod to the original anime, Baldios' activation phrase is "Baldios! Charge Up!!", which would be what the pilots would call out upon starting up the combination sequence.

  • Baldios was chosen for this role because its Shoulder Cannons and large, buff body makes it a good candidate for the muscle of the Knights' mechs, and it pairs well with fellow 1980 mecha God Sigma (as shown in Super Robot Wars's Z series).
  • Baldios has a new "series-exclusive" final attack, the "PulSaber Photon Crash", is based off of Flash King's Super Cosmo Frash from Choushinsei Flashman. it also acts as a way to allow it - and God Sigma, which has a similar abilitiy - to be able to clash their swords with Beam Sabers, especially in Season 2.

Like most of the Super Robots featured in KotM, Baldios has been scaled down from its frankly insane 100 meters/328 ft to 30 m/98.42 ft (which, funnily enough, is the same official height for Giant Robo, at least in the OVA), so as to make it still tall compared to most of the Knights' mechs but not so massive it can't be stored in the Glomar.

Baldios and God Sigma are meant to fill the roles on the team of the “secondary” robots of the majority of the Brave series (Guardion & Thunder Baron in Fighbird, Sky/Pegasus Saber & Land Bison in Da Garn, Try/Battle Bomber & Guard Diver in Might Gaine) or a more obvious (though unintentional) example like the red, more athletic Guncannon & large blue shoulder-cannon-armed Guntank in the original Mobile Suit Gundam, or even - to tie it back to the orignal Zeta Gundam anime - "Quattro's" wingmen Apolly and Roberto - to act as the Zeta’s main aids/wingmen in battle.
