Artemis is a character from Beast Wars II and is a major character in The Knights of the Multiverse. An ancient Cybertronian made in the form of a humanoid gynoid (don't ask), her job was originally to observe the Multiverse, gathering all the information she can, in place of her creator/partner, the legendary Vector Prime. However, after Unicron started tearing apart all of reality, she joined forces with other heroes from the Multiverse and formed the Crystal Knights.

After the battle against Unicron's forces, she went on to stop other interdimensional shenanigans caused by the Heralds' havoc, though she would return in seasons 2 and 3 to rejoin her companions in their wars against Axis Zeon and the Guild of the Multiverse to stop them from spreading terror across the Multiverse.

Personality[]

Artemis would love to tell people all about her life as a teenage robot, but unfortunately, she doesn't have much of one. Her monotonous existence of watching over all of time and space has rendered her highly irritable, often venting her pent-up frustrations on her teammates (teenagers, am I right?). But, as ill-tempered as she can be at times, she has come to care greatly for her new friends, often being very friendly and supportive of them and her love for them turning her into an utterly fearless warrior and will face down opponents many times her size without hesitation.

For a time, Artemis had become melancholic after seeing her universe crumble, and, keeping to her promise to Vector, only monitored other universes. When she finally decided to interact with the outside world when the Heralds of Unicron started destroying universes and she joined the Knights, she became overwhelmed with curiosity and found a newfound sense of freedom, though sometimes she can be very oblivious to most social norms, making her come off as a bit of an airhead. She's also an expert in data-gathering and translation thanks to her many years spent watching various worlds, often excitedly breaking out into exposition about a subject she's very knowledgeable about, as seen by how excited she got when she saw the Zeta Gundam in person.

Being a teenager, Artemis endlessly fantasizes about romantic fulfillment, quickly developing obsessive crushes on whatever dashing male robot passes by her monitors. Kamille is the current object of her voyeuristic affections due to his "bad-boy" tendencies, though he never really notices.

History[]

Pre-Series[]

In an alternate universe during the time of the Primes, Artemis was created by Vector Prime to act as his companion in his exploration of space and time, aiding him in his multiversal tasks and spending lots of time in their personal pocket dimension, from which they could view it all. He gave her one rule though: she could never visit another universe without his permission. However, everything came crashing down the day Megatronus turned on his brothers, being brainwashed into becoming Unicron's puppet. Her powers were no match for the Chaos Bringer's servant, so Vector ordered her to stay in their pocket dimension until the battle was over.

Sometime later, growing more and more concerned, Artemis checked in on her home dimension, only to see the aftermath: Vector and the other primes were dead and Unicron & Primus's final clash had destroyed the entire universe. Crestfallen, the only thing Artemis could do was continue Vector's work of observing space and time. This made her very knowledgeable about multiversal singularities (like how many Gundam universes there were) and experienced a huge array of emotions from each of them, from insanity, misery, and anger, to happiness and joy.

Skills & Abilities[]

  • Levitation/Flight

Artemis is able to levitate herself, allowing her to fly short distances and hover at least 20 feet into the air.

  • Head Crest

Artemis's head crest has multiple purposes; it can display images/recordings she's taken from her viewings of space and time, lock onto any kind of energy source anywhere in the Multiverse, like energy come off of special items like the Rainbow Crystals, a human's heart signature, and a Transformers' spark, and (though not so much a power and more so a gimmick) glows when she uses one of her powers, like glowing red when powering up a super move and glowing white when generating a portal.

  • Portal Generator

Artemis is able to create interdimensional portals from the hole in her stomach. She can also use this to close the many random portals the team deals with.

  • Energy Blasts

Artemis is able to fire energy blasts from her hands, often being able to fire an even stronger blast by placing them together.

Relationships[]

Vector Prime[]

As her creator and mentor, Artemis cared for Vector a lot. As such, she was heartbroken when he was killed by her universe's Unicron. She still thinks about him even now that she has a life outside of watching the Multiverse, even having thoughts that he might be disappointed in her.

Notes[]

In her original portrayal, Artemis was stationed on the moon of Gaia (her show's future Earth) and tasked by the ancient civilization that built her to monitor the world below and make sure no one ever abuses the mysterious Angolmois Energy within. She also had a partner in the form of a robotic rabbit named Moon in reference to the Chinese legend about a lady and a rabbit who both live on Earth's Moon. But, because Moon would just be really pointless in KotM's story, he's been cut from Artemis's story (though her partnership with Vector could be viewed as a parallel to this).

She also had a hammer that she would pull out of nowhere, mostly to smack Moon around when she got angry (yes, just like Amy Rose from the Sonic series). That element has been cut too, to give her more mystical-like powers, though there are a few nods to her using one throughout the series.

Her head crest and hole in her stomach were only just there for "decoration" in her original series. The stomach hole in particular has been retrofitted to be able to generate portals to other worlds, which is primarily based off of the traditional Getter Beam.

Artemis's characterization in KotM is a mix of several characters, such as Yui from Sword Art Online (her being confined to a subspace to only observe others until she discovers some new force), Minerva X from the Shin Mazinger ZERO manga (an dimension-hopping android in the form of an adolescent girl that has seen her fair bit of destruction and ruin), and LiSA from Mazinger Z: Infinity (an android from ancient times filled with a wide variety of knowledge).
